MySpace got attacked about an hour ago. It's still down.
As some of you may know, the company changed hands again about a month ago. The new owners (who I met for the first time this week) are the fifth set of people to lead the company in less than 3 years. (I'm not with the company anymore.)
I have high hopes for them. They seem like they're thinking through the right issues and understand the value that can be extracted from the mess they acquired.
One thing about an acquisition or management takeover is that it often has a negative affect on employee morale. That's the really hard part. Not only do you have to have a great idea, but you have to find people that care enough to execute it.
When I was with the company, we were a constant target for attacks. I really appreciated "my guys" who battled to protect MySpace. I remember many a night staying up with them to get the site back online.
With what MySpace has been through for the last several years, there's not a lot of people left who care to wake up in the middle of the night and run to the rescue. I can understand how they feel. But I hope there's some there that still do.
Attacking MySpace in its current state is kinda like steroid muscle heads pushing a kid in a wheelchair off the Santa Monica pier.
