In an effort to further gray the area separating free speech and censorship, Brooklyn assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries is demanding that the New York Comptroller withdraw an $84 million state pension fund invested in Universal Music Group and its parent company Vivendi unless Nas changes the title his new album @#%$. [They are] profiting from a racial slur that has been used to dehumanize people of color for centuries, Jeffries said. It is time for Nas and other hip-hop artists to clean up their act and stop flooding the airwaves with the N-word. According to the Comptrollers office, hes intending to the music company and urge them not to release the album under that moniker. Universal had no comment.

Rolling Stones Evan Serpick recently spoke to Nas regarding the controversy surrounding the new album. While the MC was reluctant to discuss the albums specifics (Its not ready for me to talk about. The album is done, basically, but its a piece of art), Nas spoke openly about his, and the record labels, decision to stick with the name. His last album, Hip Hop Is Dead, was supposed to don the title, but the climate wasnt right, and Hip Hop Is Dead is also what I was feeling. That went first, and now Ive got to get this one off my chest, he explains, turning to speak about the rash of hate crimes involving nooses around the country. Its the new act of hate, and probably because of Barack Obama, peoples ignorance and fear and jealousy is creating an outrage throughout the country, and people are reacting by putting nooses up. Its been a really serious year, the rapper explained.

So what of all the controversy? Its like talking to your child about sex. Its hard, but its important, he says. Its probably going to make people uncomfortable. I dont expect a lot of people to sell a record called @#%$. Hopefully, people can open their minds up and lose some of their fear and deal with it. Its just an album. Its one piece of the many things I do, and this will be one of my favorite pieces. And his label is firmly behind him, It will be certain record stores that will be scared to deal with it. The record label is gung ho, and its ready to go.

...He looks determined without being ruthless..Something heroic in this man, there's a courage about him..Doesn't look like a killer..Comes across so calm, acts like he has a dreamFull of passion....

i don't see why it's such a big deal. he's going to say the word a hundred times on the disc. he had a song called last real nword alive.

they are basically saying that he can say the word only under certain circumstances. it's so stupid. he can say it all he wants, but just not on the album cover, that's stupid.

I'm tired of him

I don't care what your album is called

I don't care what kind of message the cover has

Just make a good album for the first time in 6 going into 7 years.

Let him do him. If he feels that this will help enrich society and make the world a better place, then by all means, he should release this album.
I AIN'T EVEN WIT IT

^You are correct. The whole controversy is STUPID. When on every single rap album out you hear the word said so many times. Now that it is on the cover it is a problem!? That is the most hypocritical thing I have heard of. If anything having the word as the title is a better use of the word because it will make people think about it more. Big ups to Nas for doing it and everyone who doesn't like this title is a big hypocrite.

I dig nas for this. Freedom of speech, forget these @#%$ @#%$ A&R's that only worry about smoke and numbers.

He could probably call it I Hate All Caucasians From Buffalo and I would still cop.

I just hope he justifies using the word as his album title through the concept of the album.

This is a pretty big move.

I'll support him if the album is hot though. If he really follows the concept and he's not worried about sales at all, this is a setup for an AMAZING album.

But if it's just another album, and he puts that controversial of a name on it, it'll be all downhill from here.
