ive always wondered somethings about college ball, if a school has a contract with lets say Adidas the players arent allowed to wear nike products? whoregulates that? the school? also for the schools signed to Nike, how do they pick the shoes? does nike give them a catalog? im assuming alot of them wear theirown shoes.... does nike cut them a deal.... thanks in advance
^ good questions! I've always wondered the same too...so all those players rocking their own kicks (i.e. Penny 2s, CDPs) must also have all the team shoestoo...I also always wondered if they get more than one pair of the same shoe (i.e. if a pair gets ripped or damaged) as a replacement or if get as many as theyneed?
^^^ I can tell you that from how it used to be with an AAU sponsored Nike team. We would get about 4 shipments a year of gear. You supplied Nike with footsizes of players and they would send you a certain shoe based on the size. So if you ordered say 3 pairs of size 15 for example it would typically be a TBcolorway of an Air Max shoe. And if you ordered a size 11 they would typically be a zoom or flight type shoe. We typically got 3-4 pairs of sneakers per playerduring the year.
I'm pretty sure the equipment managers handle that if I player tries to wear another brand and if the players still wanted to wear another brand the coachwould get involved in discplining. Because alot head coaches get a cut of the shoe deals. If you're the player you dont have much of a choice its eitherplay in Adidas or dont play.
As far as I saw at WVU. When Beilein was there, they had an allotment of shoes from Nike during the season. Basically, the guys got about 5 pairs during theseason if necessary. When postseason roles around, Nike would send another shipment of shoes that didn't count against the allotment. For example, whenNike tried to make the AF25 push in the Big East Tourney a couple of years ago. I do know during the their Elite 8 run, 4 of their top 6 players wore their ownshoe because they couldn't what they wanted from the equipment manager. Even this year, if you look at some of the guys on WVU, many wore their own. Iwould suspect most of the smaller programs have a similiar deal to that one, as far as the allotment is concern. Now that Huggs is there, it's totally different. He doesn't care what the guys wear as long as it's Nike or Jordan. Beilein always wanted the teamto look unified and basically everyone wore the same or close to the same shoes. It was always interesting to see a team like Villanova or UConn come to WVbecause only the walk-ons had the same shoes. If you look at places like Michigan State or Duke, their guys are wearing shoes from a couple of years ago allthe way to ones that haven't come out yet. The person in charge of ordering is very proactive and calls when they want new ones, though I'm not sure ifit initiated by the equipment manager, coaches, or players.
well heres to hoping our equipment manager and nike collegiate officials have gotten something nice for the round of 16 and on.
Jordan wants to be seen. They will make sure Carolina has some nice kicks for the Sweet 16. My guess they will have the 2009s for practice and Deon Thompsonwill be the only guy wearing them during the game.
Just was on http://northcarolina.scout.com/ and look at UNC's practice photos you can see one of the guyswearing 2009 PEs. I've never been a huge fan of the 2009s but like I said they would have them.
^^^ THANKS!!! I hope the whole team wears them tonight!! Wish I had a pair. Hope there is a Jordan 2009 in a Carolina color. Just check tarheelblue.com and there are some practice pics up and looks like only one guy has them. Hope all of them are waiting for tonight!! GO HEELS!!!
one player to watch is pargo from gonzaga.. he usually has on some heat, i saw him in oly six rings earlier this year...tonite he actually has on some trashthough....... LOL @ ol buddy's foot in that MD Cal pic
Jeremy Pargo has worn the all-star LeBron III, wht/navy LeBron III, among other heat in the past. I like him also, because he sought out the best player inGonzaga men's basketball history (John Stockton).
I don't know if this has been brought up in the thread yet, but what's up with the Nike socks I'm seeing in the tourney? The ones with the stripeall the way up the back? Any info would be appreciated.
I was bored since I am sick today and wandered in here, so I figured Id shed a lil light on the how schools get which shoes..... Depends on the schools contract with Nike. Nike is either paying the school for the rights to sell their merchandise or the School has a smaller tier contractand pays so much for an allotment. Theres some stuff inbetween also. For the bigger schools i.e. Georgetown, UNC, Cinci (Huggins day), UConn, Duke... Nike picks EVERYTHING that school will get, BUT Designers and PLMs visit the school to get info from the players on what they like and prefer in certain shoes. Those schools act as wear testers ON COURT in a sense... which is why you will see UNC wearing ALL sorts of stuff on the Jordan line and even a few Nikeproducts. There's a lil irritation when Nike sends products to Jordans folks...but it happens in reverse for the Nike schools too...i.e. UConn...Syracuse and WakeForest... Players at these spots have almost unlimited access to stuff. Yet they are directed still in most cases what to wear on court during games. For schools like Maryland, Marquette (Converse) and such are sent an allotment as mentioned before by someone else, and some players are allowed 3 pairs perseason. Some players complain their joints are garbage and try and get more, but it depends on the player if the Coach allows them another pair. It used to be those extras stayed at the school and players could still have access to old stuff. Nike will now ask certain schools to return unused productwhich is what you see showing up at Ross and such. This same thing happens with Lebrons stuff he doesnt use or which is PROMO and not used by certain players is returned to campus and shredded or gaffled byemployees. Some think Pro Players get all that stuff free, but some have COntracts where they are charged against the amount of product they get. Its alot that goes intoit but Im rambling. Hope I answered that... Im sick..lol
lol...nice insight Rock, i think some of the points the guys previous mentioned had been similar or inline with that as well and that was also a question whichI wondered about over the years and how kicks are determined for the team etc....its really something that they get that much as well, but its also good tosee/know that the athlete is being taken care of
I am surprised the Entire Memphis team didn't get a Pair of Half Cents.. unless they did and chose not to wear them on court knowing how hard they are toget and wanted them for off court. I'll have to ask about that.
UConn guys been wearin Js all weekend, walker had a great game tonight in his CDP XIs - prob got em from his NYC hookup
robinson played real good too...they definitely got a lil scare there like midway second half with safford hit some shots....
^Well depending on the school/brand...That won't be a problem...You will could be sent more then 5...That's not you buying any...
i was at that uconn game and i couldnt figure out those hyperdunk....different bottom...are they the kobe/hyperdunks?
