Being a business student I understand the importance of sticking to your core competence to succeed. But I know that a lot of small businesses feel that ifthey sell or offer a lot of different things, this will increase their success rate. The barber shop where I get my hair cut also sells mattresses (Ill try toupdate with pics at some point). Now IDK about anyone else, but I never got lined up, and then felt the urge to buy a mattress. The two just don't gotogether. What type of weird businesses do u guys have around your way?

Cliff Notes:
My barber shop sells mattresses
What weird businesses does your hood have?

I've heard of a lot of barber shops selling things but never matresses thats pretty random to me.
On another note, I've seen way too many businesses close because they couldnt identify their core competencies.

Mattresses is a first though. I've seen barbershops that sold DVDs, Jordans, T-shirts,etc.. I've seen gas stations in the hood that sold Jordans, cellphones, . But a barbershop selling mattresses? Wow. That takes the cake as far as barbershops go.

I go to college in ATL and there is a strip club out there that has a barbershop and fried chicken bar. Yes in theory, you can get a line-up while eatingchicken while watching strippers.

Take it for what it's worth. ATLNTers whats the name of the aforementioned strip club?

Barbers have to be the worst salesmen ever. Fake footwear, fake chains, boosted/fake clothing, tees good for 1 wear...if you go to the barbershop with anyintention on getting something other than a cut or a good conversation something is wrong with you

. LOL. Eating at a shake joan sounds unsantary to me. But gettin acut too. Thats just crazy. In school in boston there is a Japanese food menu that says on the cover in bold letters: WE SELL CIGARETTE AND SUSHI. Is it justme, or should those not be in the same sentence?

my barber sells stolen stereo systems to the people that he robbed..

buahahaha

I was going to make a thread similar to this last week.

But it was more along the lines of: "Small Businesses Destined to Fail Vol. What were they thinking?"

There is a new sub place that opened up in my neighborhood. I was next door at another store and saw it and thought I'd go check it out. It was horrible.

As soon as I walked in the place smelled like moldy mop water. There was some old dude mopping the floor during business hours. Then I order a steak andcheese and it was just turrrrrible. The meat was like rubber. Bread was about a day away from being stale. Service was bad. Dude took like 10 minutes toring me up. No one else was in line. I can only imagine if there were people waiting.

Then they were giving away free cups of ice cream. The girl asked me what flavor I wanted. I said vanilla. I got rocky road.

I was like WTH man? Don't these people think things over before opening up a place like this?

I think these kind of people go on ego trips and they think their ideas are always gold. It looked like a family business. I just felt bad for them walkingout of there.

When you start a business, you always need someone to be there and be brutally honest about how dumb some of your ideas are.

BTW my barber sells viagra by the pill too. $8 a pop.

My uncle owns a Mexican x Italian restaurant... that dude will put carne asada in your pizza.. he is doing pretty well too

Needless to say they are no longer in business. No pun intended.
