SPAWN: Jeremy Renner Confirmed To Play The Lead Role Of Twitch Williams In The Upcoming Reboot

Renner's character will team up with the supernatural antihero of the title (Jamie Foxx) to track down his daughter's killer.

Here's what Spawn creator and director of the reboot, Todd McFarlane, had to say about the Avengers star joining his cast:

“As a first time director, I wanted to surround myself with the most talent and the most skilled people I can on all fronts. I was lucky enough to land Jason Blum and then Jamie Foxx, and I knew the person on screen the most is this police officer, Twitch Williams. We needed as strong a person as possible because he will be the face of the film.

I took my naïve Hollywood approach again, and said let’s start at the top and work down. Jeremy was at the top. I’m a huge fan of his. The character doesn’t need to be a bodybuilder or GQ handsome. I was looking for somebody who’s a person you’ve met before; I needed someone who can pull off the grief of an average human being. I’ve seen Jeremy do that in more than a few of his movies. He was at the top of my list, just like Jamie.”

‘Quantum And Woody’: TBS, Russo Brothers Developing Series From DMG’s Valiant Stable

Quantum And Woody, an adaptation of the Valiant Entertainment comic that has Avengers: Infinity War helmers Anthony Russo and Joe Russo and Spy’s Mike Larocca attached to executive produce via their AGBO, is in early development at TBS, I understand. Ant-Man And The Wasp‘s Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari are writing the pilot for what could be a franchise series, though it’s early days.

Co-created by writer Christopher Priest and illustrator Mark Bright, Quantum And Woody was originally published in 1997 and draws inspiration from the characters played by Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes in 1992 comedy feature White Men Can’t Jump. The comics’ pair are adoptive brothers who come together, after years of estrangement, by the mysterious death of their father. In the course of investigating, they are accidentally imbued with powers.

In 2013 Valiant began publishing a re-imagined version of the characters, written by James Asmus with art by Tom Fowler. Joel McHale has previously been rumored to star in what would be a reteam for the Community alum and the Russos who were frequent directors and EPs of the Emmy nominated series, although this has not been confirmed.

Neill Blomkamp To Direct New ‘RoboCop’ For MGM

MGM is developing a new installment of RoboCop and has set District 9 director Neill Blomkamp to helm the picture, which is titled RoboCop Returns. The studio hopes to revive a franchise that began with the Paul Verhoeven-directed satirical sci-fi action thriller that Orion released in 1987. Original writers Ed Neumeier and Michael Miner are producing and exec producing, respectively. Justin Rhodes, who co-wrote the Terminator film that Tim Miller is shooting, will rewrite the script that Neumeier and Miner wrote years ago as a planned sequel to Verhoeven’s hit, an installment that never happened. That duo is creatively involved in moving forward their creation for the first time since the original.

‘Y’: Diane Lane To Star In FX Drama Pilot Based On ‘Y’: The Last Man’ Comic Book Series; Barry Keoghan, More Round Out Cast

Diane Lane (Unfaithful, Under the Tuscan Sun) is set to star in FX’s Y pilot, its long-gestating drama based on the acclaimed post-apocalyptic science fiction DC comic book series Y: The Last Man. Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk, The Killing of a Sacred Deer), Imogen Poots (Green Room, Frank & Lola) Lashana Lynch(Captain Marvel, Bulletproof), Juliana Canfield (Succession) and Marin Ireland(Sneaky Pete, Hell or High Water) round out the stellar ensemble cast.

Based on the DC Comics series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, Y traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event has decimated every male mammal save for one lone human. The new world order of women will explore gender, race, class and survival.

Lane will play Senator Jennifer Brown. A Junior Senator in her first term, Senator Brown has already made a name for herself in political circles for her willingness to put personal ideals above politics. She is also the mother of Yorick and Hero Brown.

Keoghan is Yorick Brown, a young man quick to use humor to deflect from his problems who may be the lone male survivor of a worldwide plague.

Poots will play Hero Brown. A tough and confident EMT, Hero nurses a deep emotional trauma that often leads her to cross personal and professional lines.

Lynch is Agent 355, a Secret Service agent who performs the duties of her job with the utmost professionalism, even under the most unexpected set of circumstances.

Canfield will play Beth. A Brooklyn-based knife maker, Beth grew up on a farm and went to New York to experience the big city. She finds something endearing about the hapless Yorick and when they’re together, there’s the undeniable spark of two kids in love.

Ireland portrays Nora, the President’s senior assistant and right hand. She effortlessly balances family life with a job navigating the corridors of power.

Michael Green (American Gods, Blade Runner 2049, Logan) and Aïda Mashaka Croal (Luke Cage, Turn) serve as Showrunners and Executive Producers. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson of Color Force (American Crime Story, Pose, The Hunger Games) and Brian K. Vaughan are Executive Producers and developed the series. Melina Matsoukas (Insecure, Master of None, Beyonce: Formation) directed the pilot episode and also serves as Executive Producer. Y is produced by FX Productions.

Y: The Last Man is a 60-issue science fiction comic book series published beginning in 2002. It received three Eisner Awards, and received the first Hugo Award for Best Graphic Story for Y: The Last Man, Volume 10.

Comic Book Movie 'Prophet' in the Works from Deadpool Creator and Studio 8

prophet_art_-_publicity_-_p_2018.jpg

Studio 8 is hoping to build the next comic book franchise with Prophet.

The studio has acquired the rights to Prophet, a property Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld first introduced in 1992.

In the comics, John Prophet could be described as the anti-Captain America. He's a DNA-enhanced super soldier from the World War II-era who awakens in our time after being put in cryogenic freeze for a future mission. Unfortunately, he was not supposed to wake until years down the road, making Prophet a fish out of water, spending his time in search of a mission that does not exist.

Liefeld, Adrian Askarieh, and Brooklyn Weaver will produce the film, with John Hyde and Terissa Kelton also involved. John Graham and Guy Danella are overseeing for Studio 8.

Liefeld introduced Prophet in the pages of his Image Comics series Youngblood, before spinning him off for his own series in 1993. The creator notes he admired how Marvel Comics series such as Fantastic Four introduced classic characters like Black Panther and Silver Surfer that would go on to have lives of their own. He sought to emulate that formula by testing out possible breakout characters in his own Youngblood pages. (He'd done the same earlier while working on Marvel's New Mutants, the birthplace of Cable and Deadpool.)

Prophet comics continue to be published after a 2012 relaunch that saw the character flung into the far future, but Liefeld says the Studio 8 team is interested in beginning with its '90s-era roots.

"It makes sense that it's a destination that we can arrive at if we are successful," he tells Heat Vision.

Liefeld also notes it won't be a direct adaptation of any one story, just as none of the Deadpool movies reflect a specific comics plotline.

"We're taking the best of Prophet to create the best cinematic version of Prophet that we can," says Liefeld. "He's very pure in his motives to help out his family and ends up becoming something completely different."

Liefeld says that Prophet is one of the characters fans have hounded him the most about when it comes to adaptations. He chose Studio 8 after having meetings over the past several years with parties interested in adapting him for film and TV. Nothing felt right until he heard Studio 8's take.

"They did their homework, and not only did they do homework, they are true fans," says Liefeld.

In addition to Deadpool and Cable, other Liefeld creations who recently hit the big screen include Domino, who was introduced in this summer's Deadpool 2. His superteam X-Force was teased in the movie, and are poised for their own big screen adventure in a film from director Drew Goddard and set to star Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Josh Brolin (Cable). Liefeld also inked a deal with Netflix in March for his Extreme Universe characters, with the goal for the streaming service to create its own shared universe.

Y The Last Man might be my favorite comic. I'm prepared for heartbreak. That issue before the last one was :smh:
Hope they don't change too much stuff.
