I'd honestly spring for a macBook if you can. I know it's a stretch but take it from somebody who had to go through two $700 computers in three yearsto learn that lesson. I haven't had a problem with my Mac since I got it which was 2 years ago.

    macbooks?

Since when did those go for anything less than a G after putting in anything extra? If the budget is $700 go for a Dell or HP. They've got pretty goodstuff in that range.

I knew NTers would be coming in here to say 'Get a Macbook' when OP clearly stated he only had $700 to spend [IMG][IMG].

OP, I'm probably going to say either get an HP or Dell.

HP over Dell. Throw me in the group tho that loves their macbook and suggests one. My HP lasted for almost 4 years and is still goin' strong. I had severalfriends tell me their Dells crashed...

Im actually planning on buying a mbp when they release a new version of the 15 inch (i always hear they like to upgrade after every 6 months so i dont wannashell out 2800 and have an old version)... But in the mean time i dont mind settling for a pc laptop thats why im not looking for anything too fancy, justsomething thats the best bang for the buck

I got an extra Panasonic Toughbook CF-29 here - I guarantee you can't break it.

I actually have a few extras, I need to clean all of these up and reinstall OS' so I can get something for 'em.

This is NT, so here are the pics:

look into fujitsu.............. Ive never had a problem with mine, and I like them a lot

HP is nice too, just make sure it has enough memory and a big enough hard drive and stuff if the OS is vista or you will have problems with it for sure

XP is the %@*@ compared to Vista .....(for most laptops anyways) but its tough to find a new computer with XP loaded on it instead of vista
