with the whole producing, beat-making, and rapping and the whole nine. I wanted to make a thread for new comers to the whole beating making. I recently had a couple of ideas when listening to a couple of old songs to maybe make something and need help w/ sampling. I tried youtube they tend either go way to fast or not even relevant.
I have a M-Audio Keyboard, I have Reason, and I have Recycle.

I use Reason 4 on my mac and a M-Audio keyboard. I'm trying to get more high-quality sounds... VSTs I've heard? I'm not exactly sure how to acquire these sounds and implement them into Reason.
BTW here's some of my stuff if you want to hear: http://papacon.bandcamp.com

I want to try and start making beats and see if I maintain my interest in it/want to pursue a career somewhere down the road.

I have a little money saved up and I wanted to know what computer would be best to use. I was thinking of getting a laptop and some software like FL Studio, maybe a midi keyboard.
Any recommendations on what to get for just starting out, maybe some good tutorials for FL Studio, Fruity Loops, or whatever.

Any help is appreciated.

A video guide teaching the basics of FL Studio. It shows you how to program a drum pattern and how to compose using the piano roll.

FL Studio is capable of creating some impressive music. Some notable hip-hop Fruity Loopers are 9th Wonder and NT's favorite, Lex Luger.

A tip:
Don't use the stock samples. FL studio is known for having craptastic drum samples, so find your own. I'll post some links to drumkits. To get your drums to sound pro and hit hard, try layering different kicks/snares/hats together.
