NT, Riddle me this

There's these 2 riddles i just cant seem to understand.


1. Why do nerds confuse Halloween and Christmas?
Because OCT31=DEC25

2. House guarded by shotgun 3 days a week.
Guess which days?


anyone care to explain them to me, i just cant figure it out.

DEC25 means Decimal 25 - so the number 25.
OCT31 means Octal 31 - which is 25 (Octal base is 8 )


and I'm not sure about the 2nd one but to me I'm reading it as a "The house is guarded 3 days by shotgun...guess which days" In a mannerlike, there are 7 days in a week, it's only guarded 3 of them it's a gamble to show up at the door unannounced. IDK though?

as for the second one, i tried googling and it said it was a redneck joke.. but no direct answer. i guess yea its not an exact day its whether you should takeyour chances. thanks thanks
