In order to stop clogging up the NFL thread, im going to start a new thread for this.

Over the last year or so I've noticed a real crack down on some friendly banter between NT users. I'll be the first to state that most of us know each other on some personal level so any trash talking usually comes from a good place, but this **** has gotten out of hand.

Over the weekend we had two users who had been here for like a decade get banned.

@Hahahaha got prebanned from threads he didnt even post in.

Racism seems to be allowed in the general section.

Can talk trash anymore without getting banned for a week from a thread. Its god damn sport, people are going to talk ****. I didn't come in here to tell people congrats.

I get that you are trying to make this place more family friendly, but its the damn internet. Most them kids are probably jacking off 4 times a day to porn hub. If censored swearing is the worst thing they see all day then it was probably a relatively tame day.

Stop punishing us in the name of decreased ad revenue. Less posters isnt the solution.

I was sitting on my couch not posting when I got *warned* for my 11 year old avy.

I was "in trouble" for another poster outing me for it (the previous 50,000 posts somehow kept the secret) and then was told ad revenue was the reason. A woman in a bathing suit was causing Niketalk to lose ad revenue.

So now that most of the other regular visit and post less, I wonder how that's helped increase ad revenue. (I'm betting I'll be told it's record highs and what not)

The problem isn't just censoring, the problem is banning users that make NT S&T worthwhile to come to.

Plenty of good posters have already left due to these issues. That's part of the problem.

That's been the case for the overwhelming majority of NT's history. I removed it from the profanity list when the activist with that first name (last name, Gregory) died so as to avoid breaking any links or otherwise interfering with content intended to honor his memory: https://niketalk.com/threads/rip-gregory.665191/

I had to add it back to the profanity list because a small number of users were positively obsessed with using it in the context of blatant, vulgar insults - and the refusal of two users to cease doing so, even after multiple warnings and thread suspensions, results in two of the absences you're complaining about.

Given the state of the Internet, many people don't bother to review our forum rules and make the sort of broadly racist, sexist comments common to other social media platforms. This is a widespread issue online and we do our best to eliminate it from our forums. The more help we have tracking these issues down, the more efficiently and consistently we can address them.

Years ago, we clarified our image standards policy to help everyone better understand where the line is drawn:

Each time we've changed platforms, we've had to make a sweep to identify any content considered in violation of these standards, as this content 1) is unnecessary and inappropriate for an inclusive community 2) threatens our ability to cover our operating expenses and contribute to charity by violating the policies of the advertising networks that NikeTalk relies on.

We both know that very few people would support the type of subscription fee required to keep NikeTalk online without advertising. I know this because that's exactly the strategy we pursued in the site's early years. We tried to go ad-free for as long as we possibly could, but users could not collectively cover even the reduced hosting fees we were offered by ezboard at the time, and we were thus forced to rely on advertising.

Here is the relevant portion of that policy:

ADULT/SEXUALLY GRATIFYING: As stated in our program policies, AdSense publishers are not permitted to place Google ads on pages with adult or mature content. With the centralization of social media platforms in recent years, there are fewer overall choices for people looking to discuss common interests online. Of the large social media platforms, all of them seem to turn a blind eye to racism, sexism, profanity, and harassment.

We created this community to provide an alternative to all of that. Everyone is free to choose the platform that best suits their needs - but we're not going to turn NikeTalk into Twitter.

That was obviously a joke. My biggest issue is with the lack of regular posters due to what is seeming like more frequent bannings.

Some were begging for the ban hammer and left via Kamikaze mission.

The user names are escaping me at the moment but one that sticks out is EddieDoyers.

It kinda sounds like you're asking that certain users get immunity if they fall under your classification of "making it worthwhile to come to S&T". If you take a closer look, there's a few people on here that have it.
