NT What is your opinion on Affirmative Action? Vol Serious Discussion

So I was in my race/ethnicity sociology class and the subject of affirmative action got brought up.  Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a racist or anything but I think it's dumb.  Just because our country thinks that this in some way shape or form helps "payback" all of the things in the past aka slavery.  It doesn't.  There is no way you could possibly payback anything for those inhumane acts.  I personally think that when applying for jobs, school, etc., that the whole option for specifying your race should even be there.  Color shouldn't matter, qualifications should IMO.  I think in some ways it hurts African-Americans because at my campus (University of Illinois) I always hear the little suburban white kids make remarks about Blacks saying "oh he only got in because of affirmative action" blah blah you get the picture.  What do you guys think about it?
