Songs from Like Water For Chocolate, Be and Finding Forever are always in rotation in my car and ipod.
Common is much appreciated in my books. He helped me fall in love with hip hop.

I never understood the hate for Be or FF on NT....I think Be is an amazing album and his best work as the combination of lyrics and production are just beautiful. I can listen to that album straight through.
However, I do agree with this quoted statement regarding Common's last album. He clearly was trying to appeal a certain audience and it did not work for me. UMC was all over the place and lacked structure and creative lyrics. Hopefully, his creativity returns on The Believer...any news on a release date?

BE is pretty overrated...
I've been a Com fan since 94/95... I remember Ns was hatin on him after he made One Day It'll All Make Sense, then the tide kind of changed with LWFC, a lot of the hardcore backpackers (no omo) I used to chill with thought he went soft so they totally stopped @%$#!# with him... He was gettin a lot of hate on the net back then also... Electric Circus was pretty ghey, he lost some of his most LOYAL fans after that joint (myself being one of them)
Then after Kanye signed him it became coo to like Com again (even for some FORMER back packers from the late 90s early 00s), dropped BE, magazines fell in love with it, started all this classic hype about the album which was pretty good... Then Finding Forever was ghey also, UMC was VERY ghey...
I used to be a HUGE Common fan, considered him one of the 10 greatest... Now I'd say he's prolly top 30 and free falling with each release...

with electric circus you have to enjoy listening to rock music to fully appreciate that album.
i enjoy O.D.I.A.M.S(the spiritual aspect of the album) more then Resurrection, but i agree resurrection is better.

anyway..i honestly dont think common has dropped a lackluster album in his career.
ppl subconciously pigeonholed him so when EC dropped alotta ppl didnt like it.

And for the record, I enjoy listening to Waka/Gucci, it is just the majority of people I know who listen to that are close minded when it comes to anything else.

Common is one of the greats, but universal mind control just didn't do it for me. when common raps with curse words it's hard to take him seriously
