Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Season Thread Vol: (17-17)

Welp......epic meltdown lately.

Take game 1 at Mil, then choke next 3. :smh:

Javy Baez hairline fracture to his thumb. :frown:

We got ZERO games of

Zobrist
Castellanos
Bryant
Rizzo
Baez
Schwarber
Contreras
Heyward

Zero.

But, on a good note.......Nico Hoerner called up tonight. Single, ground out, 2-run triple, 2-run single. :wow: :pimp:

If we want any chance this year, kinda need to sweep the Cards again. Maybe Nico fills the void for Javy. He and Zobrist = more contact every night. :nerd:

BTW, Schwarber #35 tonight. Good chance for 40.

Last night the Cubs put up 5 in the 1st, 5 in the 3rd and 7 in the 5th.

The 7? First two hitters of the inning struck out. They scored 7 after that all with two outs.

Castellanos another bomb.
Contreras two, 460 feet and 450 feet.
Rizzo grand slam our 10th of the year.
Nico Hoerner homered on the first pitch he saw at Wrigley (like Contreras in '16)

Today the Cubs have 13 in the 7th.
Bryant bomb, Zobrist, and Nico a 3-run bomb our franchise record 236th.

Two weeks left to do somethin magical.

Castellanos btw with 52 doubles so far this year. With us in 41 games he has 15 homers and 15 doubles.

Make it 14 as Caratini adds a solo shot. His 10th.

Cubs with 10+ this year.

Schwarber
Bryant
Baez
Rizzo
Contreras
Heyward
Castellanos
Almora
Bote
Caratini

Today the Cubs scored 16. On 19 hits.

Bryant 2 homers, Schwarber #36, Happ, and Lucroy's first.

Castellanos two more doubles.

We scored in 7 of 8 innings, had zero 1-2-3 innings.

But.......

Rizzo's ankle. :frown:

Well......5-7 days for Rizzo, then see what happens. Could be worse, but now he misses the 4 game set at home vs Stl. :frown:

Tonight we only scored 8. :smh:

But we got the W.

Schwarber a 3-run bomb in the first, Heyward RBI double, Zobrist RBI single, and Castellanos a 2-run double. His 55th of the year. :wow:

1/2 back of the Nats for first WildCard but 2 back for division.

Just keep winning and you'll make up ground on either STL or WAS these next 2 days. Then we need 3/4 vs. the Red Birds.

Milwuakee has that cake schedule. SD, PIT, CIN, COL.

This team just doesn't have it. Shame. Going to let a bad Brewers team get into the playoffs and a Cardinals team that made one big offseason move win the NL Central.

I don’t really consider 2018 season had a playoffs because we choked everything away. But Joe is gone

Putting a guy that hasn’t pitched since September 1 and in a tie game not a close situation is why maddon is gone

Cubs will probably lose tomorrow and then go on another win streak only to get swept in the playoffs. Perfectly inconsistent. And yes, Maddon 100% gone. I'm so tired of his horrible decisions.

Schwarber cost them 2 runs tonight. Awful gaffe on the basepath and then didn't throw out slow *** Goldschmidt. Also had a god awful AB in the 9th. Swung at Ball 4..twice.

Definitely been a tough year, just a million things went wrong, but honestly the bullpen/start to the year was huge and we couldn't stay healthy enough late to do this right.

Castellanos was a HUGE addition, and then Contreras goes down.
Contreras comes back, and Baez goes down.
Rizzo and Bryant both have had small nagging things.
Zobrist sitting out for 4 months. :smh:

Yu Darvish has been AWESOME this year, and Cole Hamels started the year out fire, and then hurt his side and hasn't been the same since. :frown:

Kimbrel completely didn't come in 100%, Morrow fell off the planet, Strop had his worst year ever, CJ Edwards fell apart, Monty got dealt.......

All year long, win 3-4, lose 3. Win 5, lose 4. Lose 3-4, win 5. Add that up, you get a team just above .500 basically. We got up to 14 games over, and now we're back down to 11. And we're going to fail to win 90+ games for the first time since 2014. And really, going 8-11 against the Reds is the reason why. No excuse to lose to them that many times. Win 4-5 of those games, and we'd be up in the division right now with a chance to clinch.

And as I typed all that, Schwarber hits into a double play with the bases loaded and one out. :frown:

Just one of those years. Hell, I thought Castellanos tied it in the 10th last night, instead he flies out to the wall in Center.

Wow.....

Cubs battle all day, enter 9th up 8-7, Kimbrel enters and gives up back to back homers on back to back pitches. :smh:

Javy pinch hits in the 9th with a hairline fracture in his thumb, swings outta his shoes 3 times to no avail.

Whoa boy Joe Maddon. :frown:

Seasons over. Patented losing streak after a win streak, only this one comes at worst possible time. It's obvious Joe is gone. Curious to see who follows him. Gonna be a big shake up this off season. So much talent, and yet not nearly enough.
