Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Season Thread Vol: (17-17)

Yeah, the FO is going to be HEARING it for what they've done. They had a good stretch for a little while, but they are back to being cheeks.

Strop back soon.
Morrow HOPEFULLY back by mid-June/July
Kimbrel? :nerd:

Our offense has FOUR of the top 16 players in baseball. AND Schwarber is starting to become an on base machine, and we can't hold leads.

(Also need Zobrist back at some point)

Solid response today at least.

Another early lead, this time Joe pushed Darvish into the 8th, 108 pitches, but he couldn't hold the lead, 6-6 in the bottom of the 8th, but we scratch twice and TYLER CHATWOOD gets the save. :wow: :pimp:

Almost gave us a heart attack, but got a DP and the save.

Almora a solo shot
Russell a 2-run shot
Heyward a solo shot
Rizzo a 2-run 2B
Bote the go-ahead RBI 2B
Schwarber an insurance run sac-fly.

Yeah, Cubs hit five home runs without Kris Bryant and lose. :smh:

Heyward-Russell back to back and Bote makes it 3 in the inning.

Later Bote hits a 2-run shot and Schwarber follows with a solo shot for a 2nd back to back.

Pen just can't hold. Strop should be back this weekend, Bryant too.

No word on Morrow or Zobrist.

Gotta feel for Jr tho hitting that foul ball. That kinda ruined the whole game honestly. Glad shes okay for sure.

Lot to unpack these last few days. Some good, some terrible.

First, we signed Carlos Gonzalez as extra depth. He doesn't have much left in the tank, HOWEVER, in his very first game yesterday he had a single, a walk, run scored, and most importantly a HUGE diving grab at the wall with the bases loaded to save multiple runs. So, maybe we get lucky and he can help a little.

Second, we blew an entire series in Stl. Unforgivable. Atrocious all the way thru. They are dreadful and we let them creep back up and also gave away games we had in hand vs them and the Brewers.

Third, we drafted a power college arm in the first and third rounds already, guys that will hopefully be able to help within a year or two (at least out of the pen)

Fourth, Alzolay is DEALING in Triple A. I mean, DEALING. I hope he gets brought up to the pen soon.

Speaking of pen, Strop is back today. :pimp: Much much needed.

Still no Zobrist, it's possible he doesn't come back at all.

2 games, CarGo been helpful in both. :pimp:

RBI 2B, Sac Fly, run scored. That'll play.

Schwarber a massive bomb, Baez a 2-run bomb himself. (3 hits total)

Hendricks 7 strong with 10 K's, Strop with the save.

Related, Marlins beat the Brewers 16-0 and the Reds beat the Cards. So, great day.

Cubs added more power arms rounds 3-10 as well as adding 2 catchers. I'll bring in breakdowns in a couple days.

Yesterday Baez started us off with an oppo 2-run homer, Hamels went 8 in with 10 K's, 3-1 win vs Still.

Today tho.......Lester gives up 4 runs to the first 6 batters. Infuriating. Cubs put up 9 unanswered after that. :wow:  :pimp:

Check this, after the 7th batter singled, the Cards hit ZERO balls into the outfield. Zero. Lester somehow went 6, and Caratini hit a pinch hit 3-run double to break it open. :wow:

Schwarber a solo shot on a 11 pitch at bat, he also doubled home Caratini. Baez an RBI triple.

Cubs sweep the Cards for the second time at Wrigley this year.

Hendricks 7 innings, 1 run.

CarGo his first HR, an insurance solo shot.

Schwarber with 2 hits and a walk, driving in 2.

Cards scored 6 runs in 3 games, but only 3 of the 27 innings. Meanwhile their starters only pitched 12 innings compared to 21 by the Cubs. :pimp:

Swept the Cards, but havin issues in Colorado like always.

Cubs hit THREE home runs in one inning for a 4-0 lead, Bote a lead off oppo bomb, Schwarber hit the next pitch for an oppo bomb of his own, then Bryant walked, and Rizzo hit a massive bomb to Center.

And we still lost. Second time this year we've hit 3 home runs in an inning, and we lost both games by 1 run. :smh:

Yesterday was worse, Heyward hit his 10th, an oppo shot, and then we got beat down.

So far today, Heyward a 2 run single, and Schwarber a 3-run bomb. 5-0 in the 3rd. (we need to get this game since we head to LA for 4)

Well, we finished this one at least, 10-1, Hamels went 7 scoreless for the 3rd straight game. :wow: Also added a 2-run single.

Schwarber added a Sac Fly, and Baez did something completely awesome, after Bryant got hit twice last night (and had today off) the Cubs hit Arenado and he was butthurt about it. So the Rockies hit Rizzo in the 8th of an 8-0 game. Rizzo was pissed and took second since no one was holding him or caring, and he tried to steal 3rd but Baez fouled the pitch off. You knew everyone was tense. So Baez murdered the next pitch and walked halfway to first with his bat still in his hand.  :pimp:

Now we have 4 in LA, and Bryant/Contreras got an extra day of rest. Kershaw to start, need to treat him like game 6 2016.

Been a busy/rough week.

Cubs lost the 4 game series in LA, but had lead in all 4, couldn't close. Rizzo stole game 3, down 1-0 in the 9th he blasted a 2-run homer off Jansen.

Kyle Hendricks to the IL with a shoulder issue. :frown: Hope he's back by All Star game.

Eloy beat us game 1 vs White Sox, but Contreras hit a grand slam in the first and a solo shot in the 3rd to help win game 2.

Mets tomorrow, Chatwood starts for Hendricks, but Adbert Alzolay called up to back him up. :pimp:
Hope for 3+ innings from each of them.

Even with losing 4 of 5, back in first place. :smokin
