Anyone able to help with a legit check from GOAT? These look great for a pair of 2001’s (has the older box too). Would you pay $80-$100 more for 2001’s in this shape as opposed to a pair of 2017’s in comparable shape? Never used re-sale sites to buy before- Thanks in advance!

If you're going to wear them, I'd go for the newer pair without a doubt.

I meant whatever compound that surrounds the air unit. It may not be the same as the 3s and 4s around that time, but I’ve heard in some cases they don’t hold up overtime especially if not worn until now.

But weren’t they using a rubber cup sole around the air units in those releases?

interesting and thanks for the feedback. Obviously I realize they’re 20 years old haha but hadn’t heard about some breaking down. Any idea on price range that you’d pay for those given the quality, and/or a 2017 pair in similar condition? The 2017’s are going for about 100-120 less

For context here are photos of the 2017 pair I had my eye on- marginally more creasing but similar in my opinion

Yea you could be right, it should be more sustainable if thats the case.

I think all OG highs used rubber cup soles, it's the variants (Zoom CMFTs, etc.) that divert from that with polyurethane, etc. in the midsoles, etc. It's the reason OG 1985 1s are still wearable to this day, granted the air units are likely not functional anymore, obviously, so comfort will not be as good. That said, I think 2001s COULD suffer from leather cracking if kept DS since leather dries out over time, if left untreated. It's for the same reason that a lot of 1985 1s (pretty much all OG metallics, for example) tend to have this issue. I'm just not sure if 2001s are impacted by this yet but I have seen 1994 1s with this problem.

I know I'm in the minority but the 2001 Air Jordan 1s are some of my faves. I want the royals but man the price. I may just say F-it and get them one day.

I believe they are rubber cup soles, with a polyurethane midsole, with the air unit enclosed ("encapsulated") within, which is why you don't "feel" the air unit. The polyurethane is somewhat protected due to the cup sole, so I believe that is why they last so long, unlike AJ3s which start to breakdown after 6-10 years (in my experience, especially if you don't wear them regularly). One of the best things about the AJ1 is how long lasting and durable they are.

This is def true with the most recent pairs. I’ve deconstructed a 2016 jumpman 1 high earlier this year and it does have foam compound on the inside that encapsulates the air bubble. I’m not entirely sure if the 2001 did the same, but if it did we all know the 3s and 4s from that era crumble. Hence there’s a slight concern if you unDS or even wear a pristine pair of 01s.

I've watched enough of the 85 restorations on YT to say that the original was either a urethane or polyurethane midsole. A 100% rubber sole/midsole would be hella uncomfortable! The foam in the collar also tends to harden and crumble in the 85s as well. But almost every original Jordan 1 needs a sole-swap to make them wearable again.

True, plus an 100% rubber midsole would make the shoe triple in weight

figured this might be a good place to ask since y'all like to do some wild lace swaps

looking for laces for a pair of shoe but need them to be thinner than laces normally on Nikes and Jordans...along the lines of Common Projects width

I've seen some place bill some of their laces as "thin" but not measurement

send me some recommendations

Pair came in, I actually never seen these in person compared to the original Shadows it’s a no brainer those completely dust these but I actually somewhat like the 2.0s can’t really go wrong with a grey and black shoe. Would’ve loved the Hyper Royals but I’m glad to have hit something I actually wanted
