I will be purchasing a pair regardless of quality. I used to sweat these shoes so hard in elementary school, it wasn't even funny. I missed out on these before but I will not miss out this time. Thanks Nike.

Thanks sinnerp.. That brings back memories. Not noticeable in the photos is that the 2002s appeared to have this glittery metallic like finish on the black forefoot 'leather', compared to the 2000 and 1990s with just normal black cow leather. So Nike definite took it up a notch in the synthetic department
    -----------------
Going by Nike's past, this WMN's release from last year has the same hole placement as the catalog photo of the 2012 cholorophylls:
So again I say... This is Nike here

    2010s euro exclusive:

Some other 2011's had the three lined perf. leather similar to the OGs. So I guess hope is not all lost.
    -------------

A little bit of a rant here..

Nike over thinks the hell out of these releases. Who are they paying to waste all this time and energy.

Throw this grey 'suede' like material seen on $100 Nike Blazers
    [IMG]

Combine with some fine knit mesh, as seen on these 2011 air trainer 1s
    [IMG]

And figure out how to spend a few bucks on some real leather for the black swoosh, black forefoot piece, and white heel piece, and you've got your OG John Mcenroe PE c/w down pat.. Probably for less than $110

*It's pretty much what the air maxim trainer 1 nd turned out to be. And they used a proper shade of green to boot. Hell, they just skipped out on black forefoot leather and went with 'suede'. I am all for that. Give me the air maxim trainer 1 in the actual shell of an at1, and I'd walk off in the sunset
    [IMG]

Nike has done some incredible things in the past. But they don't seem to use the past to benefit the future, and move forward... Someone is stuck in their ways.

Don't use *%&$^&# materials if there are better substitutes out there. The 2002s were hard as a rock when I had my pair. It took almost a year to properly break them in. And even then, it compares nothing to real broken in leather

At the end of the day, a lot of these decisions boil down to cost and margin. Some of these materials may look "new" and "unique", but may very well be cheap to use. If Nike could release some of these shoes with quality materials at the same price as using the *$#@%# materials, I'm sure they would.

Gotta love the speculation ramping up to that October release date.. Nike has been all over the place as of late, the $110 could mean a whole # of things

$85 retail Janoski's have a suede like upper..
$100 retail Blazer hi's have the same appearance..
    Bruins as well.

Throw in some mesh.. MESH! and you're telling me that the synthetic material upper Nike will be using at $110 is CHEAPER than that? That somehow Mesh and suede on the lower end products somehow costs more to put on a trainer? So they chose the $*%$ synthetic materials? I just don't know if I can buy that.

Air Flights at $95. AF1 at $90.. Dunks at $85. Most with the mediocre 'leather'.

So the longer I speculate, the more the $110 doesn't quite make sense. Something has got to give. Is it a true price increase with no benefit? Maybe they figured since all their other 'leather' based air trainer retros retail above $100, why not these? Are they really going the premium route (samples say otherwise at this point)? ... This will be an interesting Summer as October approaches

A $20 price increase is on the scoop of what you would expect out of jordans or foams. Not some trainer only 40 year olds generally remember.

Nike let it out. If it's truly premium and that $110 means something, market the heck out of that. If it's $20 as a 'cost of doing business', I can understand their reluctancy to say anything.

Another OG picture to throw out there

generally speaking, the original air trainer was slightly more expensive than the original Air Flight Low or AFI low
so I can see Nike justifying the current $110 price as keeping things relative - materials aside

Wally, I like the idea of a true 'Mac' AT retro - something none of us have ever had to ourselves

the big holes in the AT toe-box don't just look horrible, they signify bad quality as most releases with that design
have bad quality & are uncomfortable

the last 'chlor' AT release I copped is the 2000 version, so in not being desensitized by the 2002, 2008, etc - I might
actually barf if I see a crappy 2012 release

the SCII QS' have acceptable materials, the original colorways of the SCII have more of a niche audience than the AT high
which might play into Nike wanting to just produce a sub-standard AT 'chlor' release to sell to the masses
if so - eff off Nike

this AT model is one of Tinker's crowning achievments, it correlates to the further success he enjoyed at Nike
in my opinion - he should be personally embarrased if a crappy version drops to commemorate an anniversary
where only hype & desperation enable a long-time fan to cough up the dough

Imagine getting some arch supports and a pamphlet with these
    [IMG]

Nike is definitely doing it big for the air safaris 25th. But maybe too much.. Lunar safaris in 10+ colorways. Nylon safaris... They just need to take a step back and try to get the OG colorway and safari color right
    Spoiler [+]

I haven't heard anything for the air max 1
    -------------
Nike should have just teamed up for this big 25th anniversary event
    [IMG]

Those 4, in just those colors. True premium materials crafted and created in a way that they can be worn for real physical activities. Have each one release a month apart starting in your late Spring months, the beginning of outdoor physical activity.

25 years later, would any of you think you can almost NOT find a full length air shoe in a high cut to run or train. Nike has regressed in so many ways. Yet the fan base is building.

Speaking of the air safari, there have been some reports/sightings of the OG safari colorway on the model and chassis of the Air Trainer 1.

Also, others report seeing 4 total air trainer 1 sample colorways.
Three can be confirmed as the following:
    Chlorophyll
    Hazelnut
Navy/wolf grey/tour yellow *from my other thread

So at least one is still out there.

If they can throw a safari curveball at us, we can all hope for some more surprises, with one of them sticking. They can give us 25 crappy colorways, as long as there is one in there worth while.

The Maxims are my AT1s until we get a proper retro.

Props to everybody dropping pics & info. I feel like an old dog learning new tricks.

Sad to say but Nike will never use the detail they once used on the 1987-94 releases. We're only getting a shell/statue of what the shoe was. An actual performance trainer hasn't been seen since 2000 and i don't think we will ever see it again. You can count on it these will be just like the euro releases withe huge holes, stiff hard pleather and synthetic grey uppers. Luckly i was able to find some wearable 1994 release trainer highs. Here are some more pics to pay tribute to the 1987-1994 air trainer highs.

I always wondered why the bordered tongue was not on the Air Trainer 1, and always on the Air Max 1. I mean, with the air max 1 they choose which ones to put it on, and its been non existent for nearly 7 years. I wonder what gives? Is it more difficult?

I saw this & I knew that there was something going on - it just clicked to me that at about the same time (?) AVIA was pushing the whole Brian Bosworth ad campaign with their cross training shoe... Whatever happened to Avia? (Sorry, not meaning for a thread hijack [IMG])

No need to say who won the whole crosstraining shoe category...

RE: the AT1s coming out again... my main gripe will be that they will in all likelihood use crappier leather, and the dreaded painted midsole. Really, is it THAT much cheaper to paint the rubber/foam instead of making it part of the material already? [IMG] I'm hoping they use the same leather quality that they used on the recent AT II SC QS models.

don't know what happened to Avia,
but i had a pair of Avia cross trainers in '87-'88
& they were premium, that thick gator-lookin outsole, quality leathers & plastics

colorway similiar to the AJ2 wbr, will specifically look for that shoe
in old pics if i ever get to do that exercise

Without ranting on too long. I would say the 2004 zoom trainers, which feature the same technology that the recent Kobes get drooled over for, would be that last performance trainer Nike has put out. 8 years and a flagship genre hasn't received a true mid top performer? Terrible execution.
It's been done before even in the current era. The 2004 at1 low og c/w had a midsole that was white to begin with... They also fixed a nagging toebox creasing issue present on the 2000 at1s, where you would get diagonal creasing on the grey suede... Yet just a couple years later, they continued back with painted midsoles and forgot how to use quality materials.

Looking back, it's just overly frustrating watching great progress get shafted by the wayside . I've said it time and time again, that 2004 rebirth pack is something to marvel at. When I just got into nike cross trainers, that was my first introduction.. Had I known that was the peak, I would've jumped ship long ago...
    -----------------

Another look at the OGs... This time with another rarely seen "orca" like black.white c/w:
