I think they sent me the wrong ones ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How TF do they still look so damn clean? 😮

Bought 2 pairs when they first dropped... played tennis in them till they fell apart. Don't regret doing so, but at the same time, kinda wished I didn't for one pair so that I can still wear them casually... 🤷‍♂️

Been meaning to ask… have there been any other releases with the textured insole like this? These and the 2012 pair are the same pairs, if I remember correctly… and I think the 112s also have the insole, but are there any other pairs with it?
my mind is blown that I can’t remember. I know it started with the 2002 euro/Asia release and the shiny white tongue , egg crate insoles, and a checkerboard tongue logo.

08 was that weird darker green NIKE on the strap release. I can’t recall if those had textures insoles. But then in 09, we had a legacy drop and then another super limited 09 release. Both had textured insoles. The legacy also has a different tongue tag that sort of overlapped the top of the tongue. The 12s had a different tongue than the others too.

Every single one of those releases (02/08/both 09s/12) all had the cheap pleather and synthetic grey suede. It got to be a bit better by 2012, but it’s easy to say these 2022 retros leap frogged everything in between 2000 and now. The 20 sbs are a rare exception with vastly different materials (no black pleather to contend with) so I sort of excluded them from the comparisons. They’re definitely a top 3 retro.

Sinner Sinner I don’t know how people do it. My 2004 zt1 had major glue separation a few years back. And the same with my first takes. People need to wear their shoes. The zoom tennis trainers are from 08-09, right? I’d say their time is near.

Anyone own these?

That color way works on anything. I got mine in 2015. Lunar trainer 1. Still haven’t worn them. Kind of cheap and light feeling. A total turf type shoe with its outsole design.

I'm pretty sure that the 2002 and the 2008 (darker green) def had egg crates.
But let's refresh my memory. How many 'Chloro' retros have we had so far?

Interesting... Thank you! Not an OG detail but I really like the full small perforations from the trainer 3s.

I'm bummed I was in the wrong thread and missed all of the links everyone posted and paid too much, but it is what it is I guess. Nothing crazy..... 30 bucks over what I should have.

I can’t find the full size. But I had this going years back

Small jist of comparisons notes:
Full perf. Toebox leather/pleather started with the 2002s. It also was the year they went with a checkerboard tongue design and a softer shiny white tongue. None were og traits. That Carried over to basically the 08s and both 09s. The 12s tried to go with an og like exposed stitched tongue (same here in 2022). And the mesh tongue on the 2020s is just totally in its own world (as is the black suede and not pleather/leather). Color wise, the chlorophyll designation and what’s on the majority of retros is not historically correct. This 2022 is 95% to spec easily, while the others have different levels of accuracies.

* Don't know if the one with the different outsole color counts or not
but they returned it to grey - the green outsole version has a unique
style code

Yeah. That lime bottom one I have never seen in the wild so i always just call the true 1991, the 1990. I should stop that lol
The spring 91 has a 10and12 month production date for 1990.

The 88s appear to have been made early 1988 for summer 88?
And your original 1987s have the same 01-03 month code for the summer prior

Could there be an elusive 1989 or early 1990 pair? Possibly.
We know a mid 1987 and mid 1988 release existed, with a late 1990 production pair.

You are in fact correct. I had the 1990 production pair.
It’s a 1990/2000/2002/2008 comparison photo. My mind is fuzzy.

I just sorta group the 1988, 1990, 1993 together cuz I don't think we have many pics of them in the wild. 🤷‍♂️

As far as some of the detailed elements:

tongue rim (wish it had perf too)
sockliner color/outsole color
toebox perforations
green color (debatable)

The 2022 retro is close to the 1987 original...
not taking quality of materials, comfort & craftsmanship into consideration.

This is so true and says a lot of the state of Nike’s normally half-assed retro lines.

They should be forced to use this in their marketing materials.

“Come buy the Air Trainer 1 retro, 2022 release.

Closest to OG 1987 as you can get - not taking into account quality of materials, comfort and craftmanship.”

True. I’ve only ever seen production dates of 87-88-90-93 but more could easily exist. Within each year, there may be multiple runs. This shoe was everywhere for a decent 3-4 year run.
——-

And when I say exposed stitching around the tongue, here’s the best example
18002636-A289-4D1A-8660-F770538B5469.jpeg

The very first 1987 release had the exposed border around the tongue. Beyond 1987s first run, 1988 and beyond seemed to go with the folded look

The many retros starting in 2000 have had everything in between these examples.

Whatever came of this at1 original era with mesh toebox and side panels?
Tennis sample?

A lot of McEnroes shoes seemed to be based on the original tongue design, and not the folded look. The above is folded, while there is a custom outsole mcenroe around with the tongue rim.

Truly the only missing element on these 2022 is having a perforated tongue. The 2012s didn’t get this right either. Their tongue was a soft nylon/mesh and not leather/perf. Leather.

Edit: looking at the first two photos, there may be some tongue height issues too. I have never really gone too deep into that comparison.
