That sticky black rubber outsole is just asking me to run on treadmill.

Midsole is soft. Hopefully is more shock absorbent than Air Max 90.

Hey.... Mercury Reds look better than my plain Nike ZoomFly or adidas Pure Boost.


Suede is quality suede.
3-piece midsole is soft, and they line up nicely.

At least line up better than Air Max 95.

You get it by acquiring points from your NB.com/NB instore purchases. I had to accumulate 10,000 NB points to get the reward. They had the offer early in April. My initial plan was to wait until the 997 colorwheel would be updated. However, the rendering of this NB1 design was dope enough for me to redeem the reward, so I pulled the trigger.

BTW I brought an controversial topic to my dad about new balance. He’s 60, who hated “Nike adida Nike adida” & “f***ing Jordan”.

I said, “Why your generations love new balance so much?”

He said “During my time, new balance just came out. It was a new brand that is different from Nike or adidas. There were unauthorized (returned) Nike/adidas being sold everywhere.....factory did not exist by that time.”

The joke was, he actually buy and wear unauthorized NB’s and most of them have minor flaws on the “N” part not sewn at the right angle.

I forgot to mention, but the other day I saw someone, maybe 30 or so, and they were wearing the grey V4. I have never seen someone younger than like 60 wearing a pair of 990s, besides me. I wear the “colorful” pairs, but this guy had on the greys.

Dam wish they still had that going on I’m at 9k now. That’s the best pair of NB1 997 I’ve seen hands down

From what I have been told they aren’t great for running. I would probs stick with the v4.

It wasn’t “Foamer” lol. I would have yelled at him haha. I wish I got on the NB train sooner. Any OG colorways like grey and navy just have something about them. Classics....they go with everything

Unpopular opinion, but I think NB should make 990V2 colorblocking similar to 999

Similar to this. Emphasizing the toebox......ignoring the "base accent" (according to NB1)

That's the sneaker style between 1987-1999

With some bright, fresh colors
Toebox mudguard teal, heel teal, mesh white, base accent white, saddle grey, logo teal or grey

They could even throw in some iridescent (oil slick color) parts


The thing is, the more you look into new balance, they more you love their retro shoes, as well some flagships with dope colors.

Im thinking about running in 997H next, since 997 USA are unobtainable at $160.
