"Donald Trump Jr., President-elect Trump’s eldest son, says his dad has discussed keeping some mainstream media outlets from the White House press briefing room.

Trump Jr., speaking on his podcast this week, said they discussed opening the briefing room to more independent journalists and social media influencers.

“We had the conversation about opening up the press room to a lot of these independent journalists,” he said.

“If The New York Times has lied, they’ve been averse to everything, they’re functioning as the marketing arm to the Democrat party,” Trump Jr. continued, asking, “Why not open it up to people who have larger viewerships, stronger followings?”

Trump has consistently ridiculed mainstream media outlets and broadcast networks over coverage that is critical of him.

On Tuesday, he railed against The New York Times over a story focusing on top aide Boris Epshteyn. An internal review conducted by the Trump transition team found that he solicited payments from candidates for top Cabinet positions.

Trump also recently sued CBS News over a “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Harris and regularly mocks CNN calling it and others “fake news.”

Lies will stream forth from the white house and you'll have a random podcaster more interested in whatever they feel like talking about, than having knowledge of the history of the country and its policies and asking a relevant question.

Just because some outlets like the NYT or Fox News do a **** job at journalism half the time doesn't mean journalism isnt an actual thing with good publications. News Media holding people to account has been responsible for so many huge events it's not even worth going over it all because it should be self-evident.

If this idiot really goes through with this it's going to be a damn mess. For a whole host of reasons but a few are really a problem. Obviously because you'll have nonsense questions and nonsense answers and no real challenging (there will be ceremonial challenging) of what Trump is saying because they will know any real challenge and that's not just the end of your access, he'll get the trump mob to 'cancel' you. Like before, even if the President or administration didn't like you, it didn't mean you were out of a job. But these people will just suck up because they aren't going to want to lose their following overnight.

And if that does indeed happen that regular media isn't allowed to cover this administration, it'll be one or two devastating things in 2028, assuming we have elections. Either Vance will win and continue this nonsense and further distance us from normalcy and legitimacy, or a Democrat will win and all of a sudden all the norms will return and they will seem terrible by comparison because of the intense scrutiny that comes with ACTUAL media.

To be fair (and blunt), what you're describing predates Trump.

I grew up with CNN International, and they did not shy away from asking hard questions when they interviewed troublesome, non-American political figures. It was a culture shock to discover that American journalists really do pull their punches when it comes to addressing American politicians' improprieties. For decades, CNN International and other American media outlets broadcasting for an international audience painted an image of the country that is line with how media in other democracies work, but once you're here, you realize that the US media generally goes along with whatever politicians say and uses spin to circumvent the duty to perform real-time fact-checking of the politicians they interview.

Spin and the fear of losing access undermined the legitimacy of the US media a long time ago. Trump and the GOP have simply stopped using legacy media as their communication vessel because they have developed another media ecosystem that they control better.

Tbh I kinda wanna see how much a right wing grifter would pay for it.
Twitch is abysmal for gaining engagement as a brand new streamer. With an "OG username" though, you can attract followers much more easily.
My personal Twitch account, which I don't name, has roughly 7k followers on Twitch simply from people checking out my profile due to the username, despite the fact I will never stream.

In the "OG marketplace", we refer to these kind of usernames as "Niche OGs", meaning they can fill a niche and attract people, followers, ... more easily simply off of the name. This can then eventually lead to monetizing it, if the account is run properly.

Because of the name "Conservative" and the right skillset, they could in theory become the de facto face of conservatism on Twitch. Literally.

I know I'm going off-topic again but just a reminder of how the "OG username" business works, since it is increasingly more tied to monetization and politics.
My IG @MarkRubio for example used to mock him for being Trump's lapdog but the Senator actually went to IG and got them to take my username away and give it to Rubio at some point.

Rule 1:
Every username of value on any given valuable platform is taken. Only exceptions are brand new things, like a fresh new brand or sports player no one could have accounted for

Rule 2:
OGs are valued in 2 different categories. The first is just to boast, look cool, or show it off as a valuable status symbol. The other kind are "Niche OGs", which can fullfil both roles but is generally meant for improving social media growth and eventual monetization.

Rule 3:
The overwhelming majority of buyers fall in the first category, they just want a cool unique name, maybe show off, ...
Only a relatively small minority buys the "Niche OGs", and these tend to be big spenders. Often involved in running one or more lucrative social media pages.


I once talked to a very wealthy Saudi Arabian buyer who expressed that he bought the instagram "G" and some other 1 character IG username for him and his brother (the IGs later got stolen via SIM-swap) because in his view, everyone around him in Dubai was already filthy rich. Everyone had or can buy the same cars, the mansions, the tigers, ... but only 1 man can have a specific 1 username. And of course, 1 character usernames are the epitome of rarity, as there can only be 26 + 9 at most if you exclude inactive or banned ones.
This was a very valuable conversation I'll probably never forget. Indeed, the shorter the usernames, the more likely you're gonna get interest from wealthy Arab buyers.
For this Saudi person it was his only way of flexing in a way that no one around him could match, despite all having insane wealth.

Is Billy Bob from Kentucky willing to work 2 shifts a day for 3$ so those goods can be manufactured in the US?

For a while in my circle there was talk about trying to bridge the gap by being extra charitable and helpful. But no. That's given way to 'okay, they claim they are going to make america great with this set of principles, go for it. FAFO'. I'm not doing anything above what I already do, and may do even less. One of the main principles of these people is to pull yourself up and look for your own. So if you want to play that way, lets do it.

Also I guess I might dip off here until I pay to be a subscriber. I lost a huge reply I had to further the ideas of gry60 and Dark Brandon , looping in hannah arendt and timothy snyder, and I lost it all when the page reloaded/crashed.

Long story short (since I lost the long story), what happens when people can still consider themselves good people while also dismissing all the horrific things that are about to happen these next 4 years by convincing themselves they can never know what is real and what isn't.

That was never the case in the past. With AI and Fake Videos and all the systems and tech we have, people can legitimately say they don't know anything for certain.

Lots of people. Like if you drive by somebody that needs help. If you do something you shouldn't be doing. If you treat someone poorly and regret it. People are still people. There are a whole host of actual real life people who are normal, and who do things they regret, right.

But we're going to approach a time where you can rationalize away pretty much everything as some kind of trick or fake appearance, because we've hit that time with technology. People live within their own reality but it's still mostly external to them. If they go to cross the street and see a kid fall off a bike into the street, that's still reality. But very very soon so many things we see or experience we'll be able to rationalize away as "maybe it wasn't real".

I made a marginally more convincing case in a much longer post but I keep losing posts on here.

To keep it simple. Snowden is connected to Mike Flynn, Bannon, Greenwald, Thiel, Musk etc. He’s part of that orbit.

He did what is called a “limited hangout.” What he released, was largely already known by US citizens for decades. Black peoples have been screaming about the FBI/Govt illegal surveillance forever. Snowden gave Like 95% of the files to Greenwald (who promised to release them) only to archive and never release those. Snowden is now a Russian citizen, who only criticizes the Democratic Party in the Us.

He’s someone who’s regularly quoted on Twitter by Musk etc…..and the entire post left orbit + right wing reactionaries and trumpers are still caping for him. Tucker, Alex Jones, every single one of them.
