***Official Political Discussion Thread***

I remember a random thread of NIMBY vs. YIMBY

NIMBY was like “we’re not building free houses so you and your barista friends can live in San Francisco”

YIMBY responded with “um aren’t there coffee houses in SF? Why shouldn’t baristas who work in the city, live in the city,”

The rich expect to not only have a servant class but even that’s not enough, the servants can’t sleep in the sane county as the rich people.

At least in like “Downton Abbey” the servants could live in the house or a cottage within walking distance.

Big city yuppies are more misanthropic than Eduardian British aristocrats. WOW.

Empty the cities.

Pol Pot, I’m sorry I ever doubted you.

How do you know he doesn't happen to be in one of those affordable housing units? and barely getting by as is?

You can make well into 6-figures and still qualify for those units. And, there aren't very many of them.

Bernie Sanders was on of Biden's biggest defenders when the talk of him stepping aisde first popped up.

He wrote a NYT Op-Ed endorsing Biden after the debate fiasco

He did this becuase Biden was his buddy and he had an argreement with him on certain policy issues.

And of course if he said Biden should step aside it would look suspect since he is older than Biden and to was running for reelection himself

After supporting Biden, the day after the election, the throws the entire Democratic Party under the bus. While simultaneously still defending Biden's progressive record

The same party that tried for years to appease him in different ways

This made me finally be done completely with dude. So many other Dems are taking heat for their counter productive actions but Bernie gets to skate

He has said himself he is open to working with Trump

Now for some reason when he puts out a statement with misinformation and low budget nativism, his fans think people should try to be as charitable to him as possible.

I dunno, maybe Bernie should just do better if he is gonna stick around.

If people don't like power hungry really old liberals, and think they should retire, then Bernie Sanders should be on that list too.

Went to a very small southern town this weekend for a quick getaway.
Go to the only town supermarket where I see half the people in line on EBT. I assure you they didn’t vote Kamala.

The lady that paid EBT looks at me crazy as we walk outside. She walks to her old Kia sedan that has a sticker on her trunk that says
“Trunk 2024. Enough of that woke _hit”

Make it make sense.

I missed most of the sticker when she drove off lol

We're going to need a better source, because neither CBC nor CTV is reporting this.

Definitely. A very experienced, longtime and respectable NBC reporter in my area retweeted it, which is why I have a bit of belief that it's true. Soon as someone gets a better or confirming source, post that.

yah sure none of this says to me having a visa conditioned on employment is inherently bad.

non citizens having less rights than citizens is the nature of citizenship.

if you wanna say "we should have a faster process for making them citizens" I would agree.
but H1B visa program seems good. could be improved in various ways im sure. but ultimately as is it is still good.
An asylee with a work permit has more labor rights than an H-1B worker. The asylee can fully participate in the job market; the H-1B holder can't. Unlike foreign students or tourists, the asylee, just like the H-1B worker, are both considered would-be immigrants, since they both have a path to naturalization.

And yes, speeding up the process is the only way to beef up the program against employer abuse and to make it fair to those who use it as a path to immigrate to the US.

https://www.reuters.com/world/ameri...n-early-monday-globe-mail-reports-2025-01-06/

"OTTAWA, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is increasingly likely to announce he intends to step down, though he has not made a final decision, a source familiar with Trudeau's thinking said on Sunday.
The source spoke to Reuters after the Globe and Mail reported that Trudeau was expected to announce as early as Monday that he would quit as leader of Canada's ruling Liberal Party after nine years in office."

This clown really thinks he can just say things and they will manifest. TIPS ARE INCOME, AND ARE TAXED BY THE IRS. The service industry people who voted for him based on that ONE thing he said, and that he cannot deliver on, are dummies. You can't just decide to suspend income tax because you feel like it. My god, his voting base are the dumbest people alive. I know so many industry workers who voted for Trump based solely on the "no taxes on tips" thing. Newsflash: you're getting taxed on tips for the rest of your life.

Bruh thought that insurance was a globalist plot so he didn’t get any for his house. 😂

Dude was tweeting out how Israel should destroy every single Palestinian home in Gaza and how every single one should be destroyed as part of his sick Bronze Age fantasy of genocidal mass vengeance.

He even tweeted “no mercy, no ceasefire…” in regards to Palestine after 10/7/2023.

So it’s kind of ironic that the fire did not cease when it hit his uninsured pleasure palace on the NIMBY westside of LA.

Eat ****, James Woods! No cease (of) fire and no mercy, you racist prick!

May God use fire to purge ALL NIMBYs and Zios from this Earth.

Imagine it…

It was Dubya that stuck out to me - looks a lot older than last time I saw him.
