From a marketing standpoint, Green New Deal makes more since as The New Deal is much better known. But no doubt, the Green Reconstruction would be a more accurate and appropriate name. As big and violent and dramatic and transformative as the labor struggles of the 1920’s and 1930’s and subsequent New Deal were, Reconstruction was all those things and more.

The Green New Deal is a vision where a powerful multi racial coalition dictates terms of a new age to the incumbent ruling class. That sounds far more like Reconstruction than than the New Deal which was largely a negotiated settlement between the White working class and capital.

I hope we can make permanent and systemic that which was fleeting during the time of Reconstruction and when it’s 2050 and we got our full luxury automated socialism, we’ll write the history and retroactively rename the Green New Deal the “Radical Green Reconstruction.”

Besides his sexual orientation, why is Mayor Pete getting any attention? Dude came out with no policies and minimal experience. He's the epitome of the "I went to a good school so I deserve this job" white guy.
every one of the candidates is flawed in one way or another. why the hell is Biden leading all the polls?

Can someone briefly explain wtf the deal is with these detention centers? And what the better reasonable alternative is to having this? It seems like one of those things where people in the future will read about it in a textbook and wonder wtf was wrong with us for holding kids who should be getting educated and parented in a ****in jail.

The better solution was catch and release, but the private prison industry (which we know sessions was heavily invested in and likely Trump as well) is making hand over fist money right now off of this. They are getting long contracts knowing this isn’t likely to be a long term solution as well.....

Also this is definitely Trumps “trail of tears” he indicated he wanted when he said that Andrew Jackson was his presidential inspiration. The man is sick in the head and the heart.

The Optimist in me says we’ll apologize as soon as a new President is elected and give these people money and a route to citizenship for their suffering. Though the cynic in me says we’ll probably go right back to catch and release with these poor people at the front....... then decades from now after many of them have died we’ll offer monetary compensation.

Also of course this is a blight on American history but when it comes to people of color that is most of American history.

I was thinking the same thing.

This is Japanese prison camp level during ww2 or separating native kids from their parents making them go to school and white washing them.

They are jailing people they have no right to be doing so in the first place. On top of they they’re intentionally separating children from their parents to keep them in the system (make money) for years to come. They’ve already admitted that a high percentage of the kids are now “lost” in the system. The solution is to turn them away at the boarder. This is why trump keeps saying immigrants are all face tattoo having UFC rapists and killers with “extraordinary” vehicles to give “reason” to jailing them. The whole thing is sick

Didn’t this start before trump though? And what specific measures has he taken to exacerbate the problem? Other than a cultural change of emboldening ice and those working in immigration to treat people ****tier and more aggressively.

The way it seems though these kids are going to be traumatized and our country isn’t going to want to deal with the baggage that comes with trying to basically integrate traumatized former prisoners of it who don’t properly speak the language into society.

The 'Alternative for Germany' is trying to chip away at Germany's culture of remembrance and its memorials to the victims of Nazi atrocities. Lamenting that young people were being made to feel guilty, the party appears to see no problem in forgetting the lessons of history.

As far as specifically immigration

Under Obama family separation and long stints in detention centers were used against undocumented immigrants with criminal records. Trump expanded those policies to everyone, even asylum seekers. The heads of ICE and Obama administration had a very frosty relationship. Obama was also starting the process of phasing out use of private prisons and detention centers.

I didn't like immigration policies under Obama, especially early in his presidency, but at least there was some semblance of humanity in the process. At least he acted in good faith regarding reforms.

Trump is treating his people like animals, and he wants to keep doing so.

I never Thought that I would see the day when the prodigal coal miner named RustyShackleford RustyShackleford would finally come home. Obummer was a failure and he started the family separations long before our PRESIDENT ELECT had no choice but to continue them. Obummer separated my family when Uncle Zelle used the Obummer checks to buy liquor and now he is an alcoholic that is BANNED from all family functions. Big Mama put out the word last night. #KANYEGETSIT

 It's saddening to have this imbecile as the leader of the free world.

Perhaps something that has gone a bit under the radar but the evidence isn’t just McGahn’s interview.
His account is corroborated by contemporaneous notes, as well as McGahn’s chief of staff Annie Donaldson.

Is it plausible that Warren and Bernie take votes from one another and pave the way for Joey, and makes it clear there should be ranked choice voting?

I would say there is some merit to the theory that DNC want as many candidates as possible to split votes between Warren and Bernie. Continue to make them look outside the "mainstream"

Possibly though I think they just hate Bernie. Your hearing stuff from mainstream voices that make me think they would be ok supporting Warren.

I always thought it was funny seeing the Fox interviewers/hosts grow more and more uncomfortable as Napolitano walked them through the president's legal perils. Especially after Trump became "Individual 1" in SDNY's case, something Napolitano had been warning the hosts about for a while. The look on their faces when he swiftly dismisses their attempts to dismiss his analysis
For someone who works for and regularly appears on Fox, this seems like a very strong condemnation. He criticizes Barr as well, noting his view on obstruction is essentially detached from reality.
"At odds with the statute itself", as he puts it.
At least some Fox viewers will get some sense from Napolitano, Shepard Smith and Chris Wallace.

It's obvious to me and most of Fox's viewership, that Napolitano is clearly one of Mueller's 48 angry Democrats.
