It appears this explosion was due to confiscated explosives (nitrates) being stored at that port for the past 10+ years. They've known it was a risk but never took care of it.

There's some conflicting reports on exactly what was stored there, why, and for how long, but improper storage of explosive material seems to be the culprit.
If that's the case, whoever's decisions that was is going to jail.

The responsibility falls on the corrupt government and the whole system they've created. There's no accountability and never any progress. But the political families / clans stay in power for generations.

They'll probably find a scapegoat (likely Israel) and blame them. They may find a couple people at the port to blame too. But this seems to have been a problem that many people were aware of and there was likely incompetence at many levels, all the way up to the top of the government.

That said, there's still very little info on what happened, and it's certainly possible a bad actor was at play here, but for now this seems more like an accident.

So you're telling me this guy was Jewish?

with voting polls unsafe because of the pandemic, should we postpone the election? also, reopen schools because the pandemic isn't that bad.

the crazy thing is they actually think opening schools is safe because the infection rate among younger people is lower, as if there aren't teachers, staff, nurses, etc also at the school. most teachers don't even really leave their room for most of the day until their break periods. so you have 25+ kids sitting in a room for an hour, then go out and get in close proximity with hundreds, or thousands depending on the school size, of other kids in the hallways, and then go sit in another room for an hour with 25+ kids.

That and many of those kids may only get a mild case but then take it home giving it to their parents and grandparents. That many kids and no physical distancing is a massive vector for disease transmission.

probably the "funniest" part of that axios interview is Trump saying "when I took over, they didn't even have a test" in reference to COVID.

...well yeah, scientists don't preemptively make tests for viruses that don't exist

He is spitting facts. When he took over there were no test for a virus that didn't exist.

But then he passed the First Test Act, and everything was gravy.
