Official Rugby World Cup 2011 thread

Good win by New Zealand they took advantage of French mistakes and the missed tackles. Too bad we dont get a penalty during the 1st 5mn we should have scored 1st (thx rolland the toad for not making any calls

) Anyway as Lievremont said its not the end of the tournament even if we lose that one good luck to the All blacks for the rest of the tournament, it's gonna be interesting to see them under pressure. And yeh it confirmed whay i said about Dagg concerning les Bleus I hope we get our 1st row back

Yeah, Ireland kind of screwed things up - if they beat Italy (as they should) then they'll go through top of their group - which splits them into hemispheres practically. The next round would have been a bit more interesting with Australia in the other section.

It opens the way for England to the final which is a shame. The southern semi should be a good game though.

I've got it looking something like this:

Good win last night, got to watch it in a new sports bar in the casino
pimp.gif
best seats in the house and a total of 2.5m of pizza consumed by the group! Awesome night.

Some dodgy calls on both sides. Jane taking out the jumper (should have been penalised) and then that bs call on Kaino when he stuck his arm out. Smh. Shouldn't have been a penalty. Overall I'm pretty pleased. Dagg played well, I'll give him that. Still waiting for Guildford to get on the pitch, he's possibly blown it though. Violating the drinking policy the coaches have after the last Tri-Nations match against Australia. Smh. I really hope they give him a go.

Shout out to my boy McCaw, an awesome way to become the most capped All Black in history

Well, that's ruined my morning.

Good game but so many little chances lost. I can't believe Parks didn't manage a drop goal at the end too - they had great position and just couldn't get it.

Now we have to beat England - and probably get a bonus point too - to go through.

Springboks Samoa was an intense game last night. So disapointed for Samoa, they have done so much progress and no one give them credits for it. The boks are boring to watch; Do they do something esle other than kicking the ball all the time, I hope they lose to Australia next round. Kiwis media have been ridiculous trying to create issues between the players and France's coach. Stuff French media do not even bother to mention. More than half of the teams will be going home at the end of this week end; too bad no one created a shocker like Fiji 4 years ago.

TONGA!!!!!! Suck on that frogs!

Yeow! Awesome win! Now for Scotland to annihilate England!

Gutted McCaw won't be playing tomorrow, but glad to see Mils and Guildford finally get a run. She's going to be a huge day of sports tomorrow, RWC and the NRL Grand Final

go the mighty Warriors!

Tonga gon regret not playing their best side against Canada, in a way i aint surprised , its not like we came wit a lot of intentions
laugh.gif
Very happy for Tonga, I hope they get more chance to develop in the future and have the opportunity to play against the best every years, same for samoa. Carter injured?

Well, now I'm totally depressed.

We had that - I thought we were going to do it - and get the bonus point. First time in WC history that we haven't got through the pool stage.

The only way out now is for Georgia to beat Argentina - and that's not going to happen. If only we'd closed out that Argentina game then this wouldn't have been a problem. Same both times - 70 mins of pretty good rugby and then a lapse.

Just watched the highlights of the French game - and wow were they awful.

The decision to go for the scrum in the last few seconds was completely insane too - it didn't get them anything that the simple penalty wouldn't have. I know the French have always like to do their own thing but that is going a bit far. They're going to get stuffed by England in the next round and then they need to go away and sort themselves out - they've almost had a mutiny recently supposedly.

Carter is out of the whole tournament. $#%$. We've got the depth though. Mils has been practising his kicking, Cruden is coming in. Slade will hopefully put on a good performance today.

I'm absolutely gutted, even more so for Dan. Kia Kaha my dude <3

I know! I was watching and thinking dudes c'mon take it goddamn wide! Even though I didn't want them to win, but %%$!. That was painful. Whoever was directing that play was an idiot.

Yeah, I heard about Carter this morning. That's a shame for him and bad news for NZ too - Slade is fine but Carter is a league above him and has a ton more experience.

They tried out a few things today but that was a different level of competition.

Weepu, Cruden and Slade.

Semi final's is the key for NZ - if ever Cruden/Slade want to make a name for themselves - this is their time to shine.

SBW has been my surprise of the tournament - he just needs to be tested against stronger opposition. I can't see him breaking the Noni-Smith combo - but he will eventually be a successor in one of those spots.

Muliaina isn't the same as he was before - he's a bit slow. Guilford was easily out running him lol. Guy has made the no 15 his jersey for awhile now so it'll be wonderful for him to go out with a bang.

Vito on the wing

I reckon Weepu will be in before Cruden will be. Slade will stay as number one. Even if Piri is just doing the kicking but Slade is out at 10 navigating the team. We'll be able to adjust to the loss. The media is in a goddamn frenzy, so frustrating. They need to calm down and rethink things, we're a team. Not a single player.

I thought Mils played well though, he hasn't had much game time which is a shame.

And the damn Slade haters need to jump off his d, even the great Wilkinson is kicking poorly. Give him a break. They have Carter so high up on this pedestal. And yet I can guarantee in the past he's made plenty of the mistakes Slade has.

Quarters should be interesting though. I'll be watching SA v Australia keenly.

So the final will definitely be Northern Hemisphere vs Southern Hemisphere. Weird how it turned out.

Not looking good for my boys Australia going to be tough to go through that lot.

If England make another final I will hate it.

I'm pissed that it's going to be a Northern v Southern Hemi final. Northern hemisphere rugby is balls.
laugh.gif

What's everybody's picks for the quarters? I'll bold mine.

Ireland vs Wales 1 - 12 points (possibly choosing with my heart here, but I have faith. They toppled Australia in an amazing match!)
Australia vs South Africa 1 - 12 points
France vs England 13 + (I think I'm dreaming here but France has been @*! lately)
New Zealand vs Argentina 13 +

That's just typical of the French - a disastrous tournament then they go out like that against England. They looked like a totally different team.

France/Wales could be an interesting semi.

NEW ZEALAND IN THE FINAL BABY!!!!!!

Pretty gutting for Warburton and Wales; I think Rolland should have consulted with the touch judges rather than going straight to his pocket, however it's a zero tolerance for spear and tip tackles. He put him over the horizontal so it was a fair call. I doubt it would have been as much of an uproar if it had been at the sixty minute mark. But hey, that's the consequence when you tackle like that.

As for Aussie, pretty disappointing, even as an NZer I thought they would have wanted it more. Especially in the last twenty. Pocock got shut down. All this talk and yet it amounted to nothing. Let's be real though, in the quarter final against the Boks he was lucky Broussow got injured. It would have been a completely different game if he'd still been playing.

McCaw showed him why he's the reigning king of the breakdown.

Pretty gutted with my picks last week

such a horrible start! Glad I didn't put any money on it.

I'm not going to say NZ didn't deserve it, Australia played a poor game.  The All Blacks killed the Wallabies from the start.
Pocock was not shut down, he was picked on (unfairly) by the ref, every breakdown he shouted 'gold 7', meanwhile McCraw had a field day doing anything he wanted because the ref was so fixed on Pocock.  I don't even blame the ref actually, the media was so on Pocock in NZ that it puts something in an official's mind.
Wales were hard done by and the sending off changed the game, but everyone was warned before the tournament about spear tackles.

Looking forward to the final though, hopefully NZ can win it and not choke against the French
grin.gif

Now the Wallabies are out, I'm 100% behind NZ to win it based on their form.

Oh come now! He wasn't nearly as effective as he could (and should) have been. It's not that he was going for it and just couldn't come up with the goods, it's that we targeted him to make tackles on us, taking him out as the first man to the breakdown where he can be lethal. It's a good strategy and it worked.

Dude was off his feet still trying to go for the ball. Multiple times. But he wasn't actually penalised that much. Ref might have been identifying him, but the actual penalty count wasn't huge. Maybe two or three times. McCaw got called as well. Joubert is a good ref, I doubt he would take anything that the media says into account; and let's be real, your media is just as bad as ours
laugh.gif
All those years McCaw has been called a cheat and everything else under the sun. It's about time the international rugby crowd picked on someone else.

Pocock's got a very, very bright future though.

Aussies had a bad day at the office all round. I think NZ have a secret disrupter (kidding) in Quade Cooper he played like an absolute moron.

Will be lucky to beat Wales for third to be honest.

Good luck on Sunday.

Going to be a tough match on Sunday.

France have the means to disrupt the All Blacks - if anything the All Blacks will be playing against themselves mentally - they have the best squad in the WC on paper - but how many times have they faultered under pressure.

Having said that.. !+@+ Australia haha

laugh.gif
he really did. To be honest I was really worried about the game. Nervous as hell. And then the kick off and I was like yusssss! Dude is like the Australian version (even though he's kiwi
sick.gif
) of Stephen Donald. I really don't know why Deans got rid of Giteau or why he didn't play Barnes, even I found that frustrating. I'd hate to know what they were thinking watching Quade $%%! up so much.

All of the FB groups are gold though
roll.gif

Hopefully we'll see a better side with the changes (fingers crossed) due on Friday and they can play well.

I don't think the AB's are hyping themselves up too much in respect to what the stats say; they know that the French can pull crazy wins out of their !$!%*. I think they'll play conservative/clinical rugby until hopefully they get a lead and can play a little bit more flamboyantly with less risk.
