You would probably also enjoy Yann Black's work. It's not a style that I would tattoo on me personally, but I love looking at his pieces. It's also nice to see artists who have such a distinct style where you would know a piece was done by them just by looking at it. It's not for everyone but dude definitely has no shortage of fans/clients.

The pieces coming out of the Buena Vista Tattoo Club are pretty raw too:

What are you getting? I'm curious what the creative process is like and how much input the artist gives in those types of tattoos.

i think that the design is good for a piece. just know that la santa muerte is the patron saint of homosexuals, bisexuals, transexuals, transgender, prostitutes and those that live on the margins or outside of the law ie gangs and human/drug traffickers

I love skulls. I am asian and I would get a sugar skull if I didn't get my Tibetan one. That drawing is cool though. Very Mike GIant obviously. Maybe get some wording that is more relevant to you? Might tie it in a little better.

    Where's the pics?

honestly i said that the artist will have full creative control. i personally could never ever come up with somthing like the pieces i showed you, however i want it to fit in the theme with the rest of my sleeve, which is like an evil sort of motif. im waiting for his shop to respond to me then we'll see.

Nothing too crazy. Love it though. Start my left arm Sept 9 with Rodrigo Melo. [IMG]

Question, anyone dealt with an apprentice before? I know someone who's been doing it for 2 years and recently started tattooing in the last 6 months, what I has in mind isn't nothing crazy or overly complex ( tradition Americana ) and he said he would be free :nerd: since he's apprenticing :nerd: thoughts / words / advice ? :nerd:

I wouold be very cautious. I know some tattoos aren't as hard as others art wise but the last thing you want is something that looks half @ss cause someone is practicing on your skin. Generally the way tattoo artstist go, there is always that learning curve where the first couple of years of their careers consists of total BS tattooing. It happens to all of them. My cousin that tattoos started off doing the worst stuff ever and in only a short 3 years, he's gotten soooo much better.

Anyways.....just expect your tattoo to be only so good. I know the temptation of it being free is ahrd to resist but if money is hard to come by, then check dude's portfolio and if he can do the job, then I say go for it.

10 Piece......came out sick dude. Nice palette of colors. It goes nice with the owl piece you got. How was the pain factor? Worst tattoo yet or was the hand/arm more painful?

Close to the shoulder SUCKS, but aside from that it honestly was not as bad as I thought. The area along the collarbone was not terrible at all either, it was pretty bearable actually. The area closer to my elbow when I got my arm done hurt a lot more. Once the outline was done, the shading wasnt bad. The bigger rose gave me the most discomfort, everything else was a walk in the park after that.

I was gonna look over his portfolio and see what he's done, he's "focus/specialty" is what I want, and it was most likely going on the inside of the bicep so if it's that great no need to worry

dude traditional is one of the hardest. look at the bold crisp outlines. a new dude is gonna mess those up for sure. stay away.

10piece came out sick bro. i thought the same, goes nice with your other traditional work.

Started my St. Michael piece recently.... Not finished by any stretch but I'm happy with the progress so far, took some pics when it was freshly done so you'll notice the glare from the ointment and some healing pics...Hard to snap them [IMG]

Still need to finish the left arm, **** looks like a Lions paw.. [IMG]

Oh yeah...for you Bay Area guys, I checked out War Horse tattoo in Berkeley over the weekend and they are legit. The tattoo shop is super nice and the owner either seems to be a fan of other tattoo artists or knows them personally. I kind of felt like an idiot talking to them but they were super nice and let me take a look at their art in their shop. They had orginal paintings from Mike Rubendall, Luke Francis, I think an Ed Hardy orginal and more. The guy George Campise seems to be the most talanted and I assume is the owner as well. Anyways, really impressed with their set up and would go there in a hear beat.
