So yeah I made this thread because there is a mac thread, and there has been a lot of threads going on asking for recommendation of laptops. So basically postany deals that you wanna share with fellow Nters in this recession. Also post the programs that are essential for pc users. I'll start this off

I know I've posted this like three times in three seperate posts about this same laptop but this gateway MD7818u is something serious what I copped acouple weeks ago and I absolutely love it, virtually no lag extremely sleek design but the fingerprints are a drawback, all in all this is a fine piece of workand props to gateway. Dont know how it is in the long run yet but we'll see how it turns out later.

We just got this at the Staples I work at and I've been drooling over it for about a week. Definitely sick.

candybar equivalent?? do you mean the background under the icons??? object dock and widgets combined can make vista look just as good as a mac IMO, I'llpost a pic in a sec

Download the icon that you want, right click on the icon that you wish to change, and click dock entry properties, then click on change image. You can findsome in the post your desktop thread

only thing i know how to use is handbrake itunes and safari(yes i have a windows, i just like safari for some reason)bacause those are really the only ones i use on a day to day basis.
can someone explain what all the downloads at the to of the first page are for and recommend me some other good ones to put on my new computer?

Thanks
Use skype internet video chat, Gimp is kind of like photoshop, I have yet to try it though, theres objectdock/rocketdock to make a dockbar similarto a macs. Vlc is good for a lot of things, you can play dvds with it, and if you have download helper with firefox, you can basically download any type ofonline streaming music and convert it using vlc. Yahoo widgets is really good for things like on screen calculators, battery meters and music players, andweather.

I dont have rocket dock, but I like the minimizing feature, I'm sure if you right click and find settings somewhere there will be an option of keep dock ontop side or bottom, and avast is the best one IMO as long as you have the resident protection running you will be safe from most viruses , they also have abuilt in spyware protector and I dont have too many problems with spyware but I recommend you get another program just for the spyware/adware just in case.
