Telfair Picks Up $2.7M Option
May 30, 2010 9:39 AM EST

Cavaliers guard Sebastian Telfair has decided to pick up the $2.7 million option on his contract for next season.

Telfair's agent, Andy Miller, informed the Cleveland Plain Dealer ofthe decision on Saturday, but the paperwork has yet to be filed.

Everything is expected to become official next week.

His expiring contract could be a valuable trade chip this summer.

Danny Ferry Re-Upping?

Danny Ferry's contract expires in 30 days, but if it is his last month as the Cavaliers general manager, no one within the organization seems to be worrying about it. Since last summer, Ferry has firmly declined to talk about his future in any setting. Owner Dan Gilbert has declined several interview requests on the matter. The signs are there, however, that Ferry plans on staying and that Gilbert wants him back. It is possible one of the reasons for the silence is that the two sides are talking about a new contract. Cleveland Plain Dealer

According to league sources, Ferry is indeed running the point as the Cavs begin to do background research on coaching candidates, an indication that he plans on being around. Despite doing a strong overall job -- Ferry finished second in the Executive of the Year race, which is voted on by his peers, in each of the last two seasons -- it was not a given that Ferry would want another contract. Cleveland Plain Dealer

League sources have indicated that Gilbert and Ferry's season-ending meetings were intense and in-depth, but that both men eventually walked away on the same page and with a stronger relationship. Part of those discussions likely focused on some of Ferry's own shortcomings. If there is one issue where Ferry could be critiqued, it would be the type of players he brought in during his makeover.
Raptors Mum On Turkoglu's Trade Request
May 30, 2010 9:31 AM EST

Turkoglu_Hedo_tor.jpg
Raptors team officials didn't comment Saturday on a report from HedoTurkoglu's native Turkey in which the forward said he didn't want toreturn to Toronto.

Turkoglu also said in the report that his representatives haveapproached Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo about a possibletrade request.

The Raptors have decided to handle the situation internally.

Turkoglu largely disappointed after signing a five-year, $53 million contract as a free agent prior to the 2009-10 season.

Rumors of a possible trade to the Grizzlies intensified when Warriorsguard Monta Ellis purchased a home in the Memphis area recently.

However, that doesn't mean Golden State and Memphis have rekindled trade talks from earlier this season.

A team insider tells the Memphis Commercial Appeal that the Grizzlies are not trading for Ellis.
Amar'e Still '50-50' On Return To Phoenix
May 30, 2010 9:17 AM EST

Stoudemire_Amare_phx.jpg
Just minutes after the Suns were eliminated by the Lakers in Game 6 ofthe Western Conference Finals on Saturday night, forward Amar'eStoudemire reiterated that his future is still a 50-50 proposition.

"I'm still not sure what the future holds," Stoudemire said. "I'mjust going to take a couple days, enjoy the family and enjoy the rest, and start figuring out what the next move is."

He is widely expected to opt out of the final year of his contract, which would pay him $17.7 million.

Grant Hill has a $3.3 million option that he's expected to exercise, while Channing Frye says he'll decline the $2 million option he has forthe 2010-11 season.

Who the %$!* cares?  Stay away until either the Lakers or Celtics are crowned.

I hope Memphis reconsiders and takes Monta Ellis.  I reeeeeeeeeeeeally like to see the Warriors move on without him.

Well, it is the off-season for 28 teams. The MLB Off-Season post this past year was made right before the World Series too.

I just don't get Memphis' angle in going after Monta Ellis. As of right now Ellis is better than Mayo but the gap between the two isn't that big. So far in his NBA career Mayo has played exactly how a #3 pick should. I guess no one is untouchable. It's truly a business. Could it maybe have something to do with the fact that Ellis has 4 years left on his contract and Mayo only has 1-2 and they're worried about whether they'd be able to keep him?

Yes. Mayo will be outty to a bigger market once that contract is up. He isn't a country type of dude and Ellis is, therefore a swap of the two makes sense for the Grizz. Steph and Mayo though? I don't know how great that would work. They need to put somebody like Danny Granger next to Steph.

Only reason Monta bought the house in Memphis was because his fiance/her family is from there.

West_Delonte_cle.jpg
The Cavaliers will look to trade guard Delonte West this summer because he had sex with Lebron's mom.

He has a partially guaranteed contract of $4.6 million that is worth $500,000 if he's waived by August 5th which is really irrelevant, because he had sex with Lebron's mom.

Such a contract could save a team around $5 million in savings for a team depending on how a potential trade is structured.  Also included in the trade will be his cougar girlfriend.

I was about to say "Well Gloria is gunna be on the move too then"

I'll try to obey "CasperJr's Rules of Niketalk" from this point forward. Thanks for the tip. Is it possible for me to hit you up via PM for more of those dynamite regulations you're implementing on here?? Or is there like a handbook you can send me through the mail or something?

Are we allowed to throw questions out there in terms of FA's? I was thinking of this just now after reading the Lebron thread:

If Lebron doesn't sign with Cleveland, who then do the Cavs go after in the FA market?

I don't see the Cavs getting anyone major if LeBron doesn't sign here. I don't think we have the cap space available to sign a big name if LeBron stays since we took on Jamison. We have $30 million coming off I believe with Shaq and Z's contracts up, but still just under the cap I think, with LeBron's contract.

I could see them trying to get a guy like CJ Watson, someone who can come off the bench and score since we dont have that now. Looks like Delonte might be gone, I hope theyh try and shop Boobie, and possibly Mo.

Stoudemire talks looming free agency

Another big name wants in on the upcoming NBA free-agent superstar summit.

Amare Stoudemire, who is likely to opt out of the final year of his current contract, told AOL Fanhouse that he expects to join in talks with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Joe Johnson before free agency begins on July 1.

"I'm friends with LeBron, Dwyane, Chris [Bosh] -- all those guys are friends of mine," Stoudemire told AOL Fanhouse. "So I'm pretty sure they'll call me and we'll talk about a few things."

Wade told the Chicago Tribune last week that he planned to talk with James and Johnson before making a decision on where he would sign this summer. A source told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard that Bosh also would be part of those talks.

Wade said last week that he did not know yet when the players would talk. Wade's agent, Henry Thomas, said last week that no formal sit-down sessions among the headliners of this summer's class have been scheduled.

James, Wade and Bosh became close while playing together on the U.S. Olympic basketball team that won the gold medal at the Beijing Games. While they've pondered the possibility of playing together in the NBA, only two of the stars are likely to wind up on the same team once the dust clears.

Last week, the NBA said Wade did not break any league tampering rules with his comments.

Under league rules, players cannot tamper with other players, though it's a given that players talking amongst themselves not only happens, but is impossible to regulate.

The NBA only metes out discipline in what it said are "the most egregious" cases, and said Wade's comments "do not meet that standard."

Stoudemire, who has spent all eight seasons with the Phoenix Suns after coming to the NBA directly from high school, is due to make $17 million in the final year of his contract. He can opt out, and he wants a maximum deal.

Suns coach Alvin Gentry said Sunday that "you would expect" Stoudemire to opt out of his contract and test the free agent market.

"If you're asking me, 'Do we want him back?' Yeah, we want him back," Gentry said.

Stoudemire has said that he is "50-50" on returning to the Suns. On Sunday, he said he would begin mulling his future Monday.

The Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, New Jersey Nets and Miami Heat are among the teams with enough cap space to add one or two big-ticket free agents this offseason.

Information from The Associated Press and ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard was used in this report.

Suns forward Amar'e Stoudemire maintains that there is a "50-50" chance that he'll return to the team next season.

He can opt out of the final year of his contract, which would pay him $17 million, and he's looking for a maximum deal.

"This year's been amazing for us," Stoudemire said. "We've done alot, we've grown a lot. We've improved so much within one year. It'sdefinitely been one of the most exciting seasons I've ever had. Wedefinitely want to continue that, so if that's possible that would begreat."

The Suns pushed the defending NBA champion Lakers to six games inthe Western Conference Finals before bowing out on Saturday night.

Phoenix owner Robert Sarver said he wants the emotion of theplayoffs to subside before he, general manager Steve Kerr and the restof the front office begin to address the Stoudemire issue and othersfacing the team.
