I had my 2 lower wisdom teeth pulled sunday and one side healed up perfectly while the other side seems to be getting worse in terms of pain. I went back yesterday and they said maybe I had a dry socket so they rinsed it out with some special wash and stuck something in there that smelled strong. I thought that fixed the problem til later that night when the pain became intense to the point where I cried. My whole lower section of that side of the mouth is in paina and sometimes goes all the way up to the side of my head. Do you think the dentist messed up and didn't want to admit to it? I need advice as the pain medications aren't helping anymore and I've missed already almost a whole week of work and a new week of school at my university. Please help

i missed 1 week of work. had 4 taken out 2 in the same spot u wanna talk about pain......Suck it up

If they hit a nerve when you got it done your in for a long and painful ride..had all 4 of mine done at the same time and lucky for me they got it right..id go to a differant dentist and have them look at it to make sure. second look couldn't hurt

damn man that really sucks.. I had all four of mine taken out earlier this yr on a Thurs... I only took off a Friday and was back to work on Monday.. The pain wasn't that bad it was more getting used to chewing without those teeth and the $#*% that gets stuck in there is

i can laugh too, cause i had 2 wisdom teeth pulled last year, and the doctor didn't tell me that i should take the pain medicine immediately. it felt like my head was imploding (from the jaw up), and i couldn't lay down, sit still or anything for more than a couple minutes...but i didn't cry.

seriously though, did you ask could he up the dosage on the pain medicine or could you take more pills?

I had two pulled out about a year ago. The doctor was feeling swaggy and asked if I wanted to go for all four while I was there.

Needless to say, I knew I wasn't about that life.... Man, the amount of blood and pain. I was hurt.

I posted this in the morning and popped 2 vicodin pills and knocked out,I'm up again and feel like crap with a mouth that feels like it has a heartbeat in it. I'm going to see if another dental office will take a look at me to see if what could be wrong. I've never felt so hurt like this in my life. For the rest of you who are getting yours pulled I'd recommend you go to a real good specialist. I went to one in my neighborhood that takes payment plans. Go to a rich place instead, spend the extra cash.

I think my wisdom tooth is growing, I was going to schedule an appointment for next week. But thanks to all of your guy's experience, i'll just deal with just having a wisdom tooth!

awww damn...I was about to call the dentist today to make an appointment...i'm not gonna do it anymore.

+$@! yo thread!

The only good things that have come from the extractions are that my vision is good again and I can breathe better now. Aside from that this is bs. I am on my way for a second opinion.

please tell me you are joking.

do NOT do this.  If your wisdom teeth are impacted and growing sideways into your back molars it could really mess your grill up if you dont get em pulled.  It could make your teeth crooked as it continues to grow and push your other teeth out of place.  It can also damage the back molars which will then require you to pull thm and possibly do a root canal.  If anything you are just going to create a bigger problem (and more pain) down the road.

Getting your wisdom teeth pulled goes two ways.  You have some people like OP where it is an absolute trainwreck.  I have seen others who can get all 4 pulled and be back at work/school within 2 days with limited discomfort.  For the latter, they always look at the former and think they are soft/weak/crybabies whatever.  They just dont know.  Having my wisdom teeth pulled was the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life.  Appendicitis (which also sucks really bad) is a very distant 2nd.  I went to a bootleg dentist too and mine ended up getting infected and wouldnt stop bleeding for more than 3 days.  Oh the nightmare.

more than likely is an infection bro.....at least thats what it sounds like to me, go back and demand stronger anti-biotics, a few months back i went scooba-diving, i had no clue if you had a root canal half-way done without a crown, the last thing you should do is scooba, the preassure popped my cap and somehow caused an infection, 2 days later i was flying back to the states, i didnt even go home, i went straight to the dentist from the airport, they took the cap out, cleaned me up and recapped me, but didnt give strong enough antibiotics, needsless to say i experienced the worst pain ive ever experienced in my life....i woke up one night in agony and tears....after a week of dealing with this pain i went back and demanded something stronger....forgot wht they gave me, but within an hour the pain was relieved....

i honestly believe a really bad toothache is worst than getting limb chopped off.

I feel your pain, got all 4 taken out Monday without sedation. The key is to follow all your dentist's post-op instructions.
1) Ice cheeks to reduce swelling

2) Gauze on both sides of your mouth to create proper blood clot

3) Avoid chewing or spitting initially

4) Only soft foods like oatmeal, soup, mashed potatoes

5) Take all antibiotics and painkillers prescribed as necessary

6) My dentist also recommended brushing without toothpaste at first in fear of damaging the areas of extraction

7) Add salt to regular water and rinse both sides of your mouth out

Sounds like an infection. I had all four of mine pulled in 06. I woke up as they were pulling out the last one which happened to break in half. Glad I was still numb. It's interesting hearing wisdom tooth stories because I felt pain but not to the extent that others are saying. I popped those pills they gave me exactly when I was supposed to and until the bottles were empty. My only real problem was the bleeding.
