My friend has a virus on his computer called Green AV (fake anti-virus program) and I can't get it off.

I'm pretty decent with that stuff and removed Micro anti-virus from a couple friends computers but this seems to be much more difficult.

Malware Bytes Anti-Malware won't remove the virus and I tried to use Dr. Web Cureit but in mid scan I get the blue screen and the computer crashes.

Any advice?

Your gonna need to install an actual AV with real time protection because if not the virus will just reinstall itself when removed.

Install - Avira AntiVir, Spybot, and roguefix.

Run spybot and roguefix to clean the comp then install Avira and make sure you select that it loads first on start up. Make sure you update everything as well. You should be good on the next start up. Avira will catch it trying to reinstall and should stop it.

Spybot didn't catch anything, and roguefix is only for XP...he's running a Vista. I'll look into Avira though for startup

and it's not actually HIS computer, it's his older brothers but I told him I'd look at it cause I thought I'd be able to justput it in safe mode and run Malware Bytes and be done. He has a mac as well

seems that the virus is making it crash somehow, I've read up on it a little and it's a fake screen I think
