Sean Payton Tops Eagles Wish List

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Sean Payton will meet Monday with New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis to discuss his future with the team.

Twelve hundred miles to the northeast in Philadelphia, Eagles owner Jeff Lurie will be paying very close attention to how that discussion goes.

According to a league source, Payton and Ravens head coach John Harbaugh are at the tippy-top of Lurie's wish list of candidates to replace Chip Kelly, who was fired last week.

Lurie would seem to have almost no shot at getting Harbaugh, who spent 10 years as an assistant with the Eagles before getting hired by Baltimore in 2008. Under Harbaugh, the Ravens have the third most wins of any team in the league in the last eight years and won a Super Bowl in 2012.

I don't see Harbaugh leaving Baltimore. He said himself that he isn't going anywhere.

whoops, I missed this thread, I figure we would keep the one going since it was strong for 3 years

I think he's only still around since we don't have a HC yet. Once we get a new HC, I think the personnel will change.

Thurmond expects to leave in Free Agency. Wants a pay day.

PHILADELPHIA >> Walter Thurmond deserves a raise. The Eagles’ safety picked off four passes this season, not three, which was the number thanks to a statistician’s glitch giving the Giants a fumble Sunday rather than a Thurmond pick.

Playing all 16 games as a hybrid safety this season, Thurmond didn’t show to be Jairus Byrd or Devin McCourty, but he’s close. Guys who can play safety and corner are at a premium in the pass-happy NFL.

Thurmond also is a realist. When he looks at the double-digits list of Eagles free agents, he cannot get past Sam Bradford, the obvious priority. It’s going to take a package averaging close to $20 million a year to keep the quarterback in town.

“They only have $17 million in cap space,” Thurmond said of the Eagles. “Economically it doesn’t make sense for them. I would love to be here. I love playing here. But that’s the way it is.”

Thurmond completed a 1-year, $3.25 million contract with the Eagles. He’s proof the Seahawks really do develop good defensive backs. They took Thurmond off the board in 2010.

Thurmond checked the no injuries box this year as he equaled the number of games he played in the previous three seasons. Now he’s going to get paid. It just won’t be the Eagles unless they move on from Bradford or possibly Vinny Curry, the pass rusher they’ve been reluctant to trade or pay. The Eagles can only use the franchise tag on one player.

Thurmond has done his homework. He figures the Raiders have the most cap room. And yes, he’s OK if the team relocates to Los Angeles

It really sucks that he's most likely going to leave. I really liked having Thurm and Jenk in the backfield.

They can make it work, I think Celek might be a cap casualty as well as kkkooper and probably Ced. Just depends on how much he wants. I'd give Thurm 3/18

I say let ced walk, especially if we go back to a 4-3..

Jason peters could also be a cap casualty.. There are couple cuts that could get us to 40+

With the way Chip purged the team it's literally like 5 players left from that team

I want a defensive coach and a good Offensive coordinator. Seems like we haven't had a good defense in forever
