^ If that's right, then why do the boxes for the ATC "3" retro just say Air Tech Challenge as if they were the first ones? that'sprobably what's been throwing me off forever. I've never even seen those first ones you just posted. those were never retroed, were they?
edit:not that I was doubting you (you're always on point with historical info), but now I see the clear and obvious design evolution in all 4 pairs. Nike musthave just messed up when they released the "3" retro by not calling it the "3".

For some odd reason, Nike retroed the ATC III (OG) and named them the ATC. They followed with the ATC II (OG), appropriately named the ATC II.

Yes, the ATC I (OG) have not been retroed.

But in all fairness, the OG ATC weren't numbered either. The boxes just said "Air Tech Challenge 3/4", with 3/4 as a reference to it being amid-cut. The numbering of the OG's is just based on the order of their release.

Sinner- thanks for the info. that makes a lot more sense. you're saying that the boxes on each of the original releases just said "Air Tech Challenge3/4" on the boxes, right? and by that measure, Nike technically created the confusion by retroing the 3rd ATC shoe first with the box just saying ATC andthey retroed the second ATC shoe but put "II" on the box. how complicated! haha. good to know though, finally. thanks again for clearing that up!
