Tom Berenger, Willem Dafoe, Charlie Sheen, Forest Whitaker, Francesco Quinn, John C. McGinley, Kevin Dillon, Reggie Johnson, Keith David, Johnny Depp, DaleDye( he's always in war movies). The movie was a classic and had a great cast. It was filmed in the Philippines back 1n 1986. I read an article 2 years agoabout the scene in the hut where Sheen and Dillon messed with the dude with one leg. They said that was a tough scene to shoot, they said they gave money toguy's mom to pay for his surgery. Anyone else noticed that both films Dafoe shot in the Philippines ( Platoon and Flight of the Intruder), he mentionedthat America wasn't going to win the war. I think this was the best Vietnam War movie ever made, then Full Metal Jacket.

never saw it before. i think it's On-Demand, so i might watch this over the weekend.

I'd agree. It was one of the first movies that didn't try to glorify war. It show war as a ugly, destructive, and tragic part of our society. Big propsto Oliver Stone. He's reported to have put his cast through hell when making the movie. (This includes a young Johnny Depp hahahaha) Almost to the point ofreally treating them like they were infantry soldiers. Great great movie.

I didn't even know that Oliver Stone was actually in the movie until now.

i've been telling myself to watch this movie for the past coulpe years, full metal jacket too

Yeah he incorporated himself into a few scenes in the movie. Like there was one where hes the helicopter door gunner but you would never know cause heswearing a helmet and visors. I'm not too sure if he can act but he sure did a hell of a job directing.

*SPOILER* for those who havent seen it

the part where they leave william dafoe in the jungle cause dude said he was dead... and charlie sheen sees him when they're flying overhead gettin allshot up gets me everytime

False. Stone's depiction of war was nothing groundbreaking, check out a movie like the Oscar-nominated Das Boot which is exponentially more"real" than Platoon. Deer Hunter is as raw as they come. And All Quiet on the Western Front is one of the first great anti-war movies that precededPlatoon by over 50 years.

The only thing that separated itself from other movies was Stone's use of conspiracy, which he uses in practically every movie.

Anyway, it's cool to see Charlie Sheen when he still had the potential to be a great actor and Dafoe is good in this movie, although his character andBerenger's character were completely exaggerated. In my opinion this movie is decent but very overrated. No war movie comes close to Apocalypse Now.

The Deer Hunter is amazing, Deniro, Walken, John Cazale, shame he had to pass on he had crazy potential, every flick he did he was good in.

I was thinking the same thing. Isn't that his image on the cover?
