Question about DMP VII's.

Ok so the shoes have the date of a 60+ point game from MJ on the inside of the tongue of course, but I couldn't help but notice that the date is from 1993.Wouldn't he technically be wearing the VIII's by that time? I mean this is the second half of the 92-93 season. Can someone clear this up for mePLEASE? I didn't see the actual game so I don't know for sure.
