Hi there! I was just pondering ..

Why are Americans so offended when the word "Socialism" is brought up to link with health care and what not?

I'm not looking for lectures about how our capitalist nation is this, that, bla bla. I just want a clean cut opinion of this matter. Thank you

Most Americans fear what socialism has done to human rights in almost all instances of its use around the world. Although we would like to believe that our government has our best interest at heart history proves us wrong over and over again.

From the way I see it humans are innately corrupt. If government is given a sweeping range to operate in, the humans that represent us will eventually become prone to corruptions. Humans aren't perfect so limited government while it may not be the fairest for all, guarantees that at least the government will not be able to infringe upon your personal rights.

America hasn't been a purely capitalistic country in over a hundred years so in many ways especially after all the bailouts, stimulus and health care we are a socialist country.

My only fear is the trend our government has been taking lately. In the past 20 years we have lost so many rights at an unprecedented rate never seen in our history before.

So is Socialism bad? Well in theory it is actually a good form of government but unfortunately humans have never proven to have enough restraint to make it work in reality.

I've read, listened and watched so many debates and articles about socialism moving in as far as health and social security. I've got into arguments with friends about political views (so... so bad), and yet I don't understand why they are so offended when it is brought up? I guess in my point of view, the subject of the matter is as black and white as it can get. Or I'm just not beating around the bush? Health care = a form of socialistic value? Helping out the society? Yeeeeees ... ok. There may be a lot of gray to this.. but sugarcoating the facts makes us seem like we're in denial that this nation is not as capitalistic as it once had been.

because america = $$$

so once people hear the word socialism, they think the having state control of your life
