Agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) of the Philippine National Police raided a Pasay City shoe store suspected of selling counterfeit products and seized a truckload of fake Adidas footwear.
CIDG Economic Crimes Task Force (ECTF)head Chief Superintendent Raul Castaeda said the operation also resulted in the arrest of 20 persons, two of them Chinese nationals.
Raided was the Harrizon Shoe Plaza along F.B. Harrison street. The raid revealed that several stalls at this shopping center were selling fake Adidas and Nike products.
ECTF executive officer Senior Superintendent Noel delos Reyes, who led the raiding teams, said charges of resisting arrest and interfering with court-sanctioned police operations will be filed against the arrested suspects.
Adidas Corp. repesentatives flew in from Hong Kong to join their local counterparts in personally observing the police crackdown.
Besides the displays of fake Adidas shoes, three truckloads of fake Adidas products were seized by the CIDG agents from five warehouses located at the same shopping center, Delos Reyes said.
The raids were sanctioned by a search warrant issued by the courts in response to a complaint fild by Adidas Philippines.
He also said that the raiding party also found "more fake Nike shoes among their stock," but added that, since the search warrant only covered the fake Adidas products, they did not touch the fake Nike shoes.
He said the ECTF has received numerous complaints from Adidas over the piracy of their products.
