Tonchan Ramen will be having our 2nd Annual Ramen Speed Eating Contest on Sunday May 20th from 3pm-8pm. This is our fourth event since we opened over a year ago. I would like to hear suggestions on how to improve the restaurant and if you have any other great ideas for our next event, that would be great.

Basically we will be taking the fastest time to finish one bowl of ramen. Each person who competes will get a picture taken and be posted on our wall including their finish time. Last year's champ finished in 1 minute 57 seconds so start practicing. You can compete just by filling up an application form at the store.

Man I love supermarket ramen/instant noodles/cup noodles but I don't like the real thing

Looks mad fun though. Only problem is ramen is really hot when it's fresh and it's impossible to eat.

as a current college student the thought of this contest turns my stomach no disrespect but living off these is

the cheap ramen has a lot of sodium

i pour water in the cup and then i drain it and then pour water again to heat it up

you already know im down. I'm not gonna win though...

Good luck with that! Will try to stop by next time I'm in LA. Seems kind of a shame to speed eat decent ramen, but if it brings in the customers...

Free restaurant ramen for a year sounds like a great prize!

free Top Ramen for a year, not so much.

I thought this was going to be able instant kind, but since it's not it would be cool to participate in. Haven't really heard about noodle soup contests before.

quick question about the contest.

will the noodles and soup be coming out piping hot as if its a fresh to made order, or will it be served at a temp more conducive to speed eating?

if its the latter, would we be allowed to drop a handful of ice cubes into the bowl (prior to the start) so that the temp will be manageable as soon as the competition starts?

wtpho i thought ramen was a poor mans meal i honestly didnt know there was a real version of it

. i wouldnt be able to do the challenge though i had a bad past experience with ramen, when i was younger i ate it and threw up and felt terrible so now i hardly ever eat it.

The ramen will come out just made to order so it will be hot.  I didn't include that into our rules but we will not allow people to put anything into the bowl to cool it down.  Your best bet is to eat the noodles first and by the time you're done with that, the soup will be cooled down to drink.

Never had real ramen. How is it compared to the instant stuff?
