guess things could always turn out to be better if he was at the helm from the start? ... i dont know

He did fine with what he had.. if the Raptors stay healthy, have a better assistant that can instill some defense, draft well, make a couple upgrades to theroster, and start the season off well, they can be a playoff team..

jay is a great coach. he just got put in a bunk situation.

still surprising that he got extended tho, considering the year they had.

with so many coaches out there with proven success that are looking for jobs....why would they settle for Jay? Not a smart move especially since he willalways, in some capacity, be with the Raptors.

what they should have done was steal tom thibodeu from the Boston Celtics..... but colangelo wants to build the phoenix suns of the north and play no D.....so.....

What the eff?

Mitchell gets fired after starting the season 8-9.

Triano gets an extension after going 25-40 the rest of the way.

I'm guessing that Triano got a relatively small contract compared to the rest of the coaches in the NBA (Mitchell was one of the highest paid in the leagueand is still owed $4 mill). The contract is probably small enough that the Raps can afford to fire him after 1-2 seasons if they're still doing poorly.

Yet another questionnable decision by Colangelo.

Exactly what I'm saying!

When I first read about this, I screamed "NOOOOOOOOOOOO" throughout my house.

I think collectively as a group we could run the raps X5 better the colangelo...
I pose these question to my fellow raptors fans:
What should the raps do this off-season?
Who should they target in the draft?
Can the raps contend next year?

The record isn't that important important player were throughout that stretch of games and he had to implement a new offense half way through thee season Ithink you have to give him a pass on the record.

The coach you pick nearly as important as the relationship you have with that coach, Sam Mitchell and Bryan Colangelo were never once on the same page, Jay onthe other seems to be very much a disciple of BC's style of thinking.

I'm not surprised at all by the decision but I question the reasoning behind it. As I said earlier, I'm guessing MLSE did not want to spend big $$$ onanother coach while still paying Mitchell.

Osh Kosh, weren't you criticizing Triano for most of the season?

Anyways, I still have hope that the team will improve in the off-season. Sign Artest and draft an athletic wingman. In all likelihood we'll resign Parker, draft a 3pt specialist and sign another shooter to a 4 year/$30 million deal

I'll withhold any judgment till I see this team perform for the first 20 games under Triano at the helm. This really is the first time hes gonna take thisteam and shape his philosophy into them right from the off season and into pre-season. Maybe this team will come out there with a different mindset andexecution. I'm REALLY trying to see the bright side of this decision but I just feel

Yet to see what kinda moves BC is gonna pull this summer. it'll be interesting for sure

They made a mistake firing Sam Mitchell.

NBA teams are too quick to fire a guy if they get off to a bad start... More teams should take a hint from the Jazz.

I really think it's with the players, not the coach *in the Raps case*.

You can hire a good coach for this team and they still aint doing +%#*.

I had high hopes into this season and guess what? They just blew it. They probably had the best line up in a while.

I'm more interested on the player deals this summer.

I criticized the lack of a defensive philosophy, there is no reason Bosh (Who was considered by Coach K to be the best defender they had),Bargnani (Who I consider to be a good man to man defender and at the very least medicore too average), Joey Graham, Anthony Parker, and Jose Calderon shouldnot be an above average defenseive unit.

Colangelo is going to hire Ivaroni defensive coach who will hopefully fix that.

Ivaroni+Jay Triano= Good hire
Jay Triano = Bad hire.

That's basically how I look at it.

Thibodeu should have been at the top of the list for sure....this Triano hiring is a financial descision period
