Guns are illegal in all the places you mentioned above, however, the topic is allowed to be openly discussed on the board.

What's going on here? Are we basing legality off of US laws or a culmination of globally accepted laws?

Also, you mentioned "recreational use" does this mean if all participants in the thread have medical cards it will stay open?

Guns are not illegal (See second amendment).
Illegal posession of a gun is illegal.
I'm pretty sure (about 80%) you aren't allowed to have a hand gun in your house in Canada. You have to keep them at the gun club or whatever. Which basically means they are illegal everywhere accept in a gun club. And the last time I checked NT was not a gun club lol. I dont even want to get started on gun laws in England. But I'm not a law major so I am probably wrong.

point being though... people only complain when it's something they're against.

either way.. nothing that people say in this thread is going to convince me that MJ threads should be allowed to stay open.

You're talking about in America. Jdocc isn't American nor is he talking about American laws. The ones dirty mentioned were all foreign places.

There is a plethora of people that are misinformed when it comes to Marijuana. From the reason why its legal to its actual long/short-term effects, its amazing what people take as fact from hearsay/D.A.R.E. etc. There was an increase in weed-related threads a while ago and I tried to post in most of them to clarify things, and some aren't locked. I love the fact that NT can be an oulet for people to see other perspectives that they won't see in the "real world," and at the same time think that the weed-culture is significant enough that it should be able to be expressed (Obviously an opinion, I'm not questioning the Rules.)

Why is their a weight loss/fitness thread? NT is a community, and not all of them are knowledgeable in all topics.. If I'm browsing NT one day and see a political thread, I read into it and see several opinions, I may give my opinion, and gain an enhanced POV. Would I have googled or wikapedia'd the thread topic without the existence of the thread? No..

glad to see this has yet to be locked, and i'm not the only one that feels this way about the MJ posts.

but thanks for the answer Dirty. although i still don't get why discussing "use" is acceptable vs. discussing using.. meh.

Are you a user?  I'd venture to guess yes, mostly because of your stance.

I have no horse in this race, I'm not trying to be a mod, I just don't care enough, but I can understand why discussing something illegal isn't accepted.  In terms of use vs. using, I would think the problem is that many of the people talking about using are simply glorifying the use of marijuana while if the discussion is really about use/legality, it would/should be about the postives/negatives, changes in drug laws, effect on society and economy, etc.  When that turns into talk about people's favorite weed, how high they got last night, the munchies or whatever, that's where it turns into something that's not acceptable.
