I'm glad I saw this thread. Happy MLK Day, and its a great time to remind ourselves of all our forefathers had to bear so that we can be afforded the opportunities that we have to day. I disregard his views on God and religion since i think they're unnecessary and harmful regarding his teachings, but respect him for everything he's done as I do all famous pioneers of progression.

All those people, watching you, clinging to those words that YOU enact and praying that they would evoke such revolutionary change. IMAGINE that son....

how so.... i can understand how some would interpret it as such seeing his take the bull by the horns, demanding str8 forward approach when it comes to minority rights...and not the kumbaya, almost passive and permission approach that mlk took. But kkk is racist and based on what i can access of malcolm x i cant place him, the panthers and others like them in the same realm of conversation as the klan.
they have more in common than you think. much of mlk's latter quotes mirror a lot of what x was saying all along. ......reacting to institutionalized racism is not racist. It is simply reactionary.

MLK's entire goal was to work WITH the government (whom he undoubtedly had disdain for just like Malcolm) to give Blacks equal rights and to make them a part of the US as normal, equally represented citizens. Malcolm X explicitly expressed that he had no intentions of working with White people. He wanted a straight up Black nation. was he out of line for wanting this? no. is it still racist? yes plus what are y'alls points? the dude said do we do the same thing for Malcolm and the answer is no for the 2 reasons i stated: there is no Malcolm X day + he was a militant, violent, racist. i never said he was wrong for thinking how he did...but that's why the US doesn't give him that special treatment. MLK was a preacher who affected actual U.S. law for goodness sakes (Civil Rights Act). Malcolm X was an criminal turned Muslim who preached all Black everything with no White involvement in a country run by White people. what do y'all expect?
Its awesome that Obama is getting sworn into office for his 2nd term on Martin Luther King Jr. day. MLK helped make it possible for me to marry my wife and I am forever greatful for that. Before 1967 some of you might not know but interracial marriage wasn't allowed. We have come along way but as a nation we still have a long way to go. I always sit back and wonder what MLK would think of this generation. Would he be outraged, disappointed etc. It's time for our generation to lead with love and peace and continue to knock down all the racial barriers that still exist so we can finally full fill MLK's dream. It's time for us to start being leaders and stop accepting racism. It' time to address why most African Americans continue to live in poverty and why there's more African American males in prison then in college. This generation can make a change in both of these areas. I feel like the more interracial babies that are born the more it will help get rid of racism. We shouldn't just be talking about these issues only once a year on MLK day we need to continue these talks on a daily basis until as a nation we come up with solutions. R.I.P Martin Luther King
um racism is believing one race is superior then the other...and the practice of denying and discriminating against said other races based on the premise of your belief of superiority.... Where did malcolm say he believed whites where beneath as a whole blacks? Malcolm never had power so how could he use it to deny and discriminate against other races based on feeling his race was superior? He didnt have the power/money/resources/influence to impose racial superiority over whites...so again how could he have done it? better question show a example of him doing it? You cannot deny nor can you discriminate against a person without having the power/resources to do so...You couldnt even say he was prejudice against the white establishment seeing as his disdain taste for them wasnt a prejudgment, and based on actually truths....ie if i saw you and said i believe you a thief based on the premise of you being a certain race..isnt the same as calling you a thief because i saw you steal red handed. Cant even say he was a bigot..seeing as a bigot is a person who is narrow minded, intolerable to others based on preconceived notions and prejudices... because again he wasnt prejudice so...... I dont mind ppl using the fictitious "race card" and what not...but if you are going to use it, atleast know what the suit is on the card.
