All of this talk about whether or not "real people" browse at work is irrelevant. NikeTalk IS viewed in public places like libraries, it IS viewed in homes with young children, etc. and the site needs to be up to standard.
We're not - NOT - opening up a special forum so you can talk about porn, so if that's your goal please just take your adolescent angst to one of the approximately two trillion "adult" sites on the Internet when the urge strikes. That's not what we're here for.
You can save all of the discussion about how the human body is, like, a beautiful, natural thing and we should be more permissive. We're trying to run a website for a broad audience. If you smoke in your own home, that's your business, but that doesn't mean you HAVE to blow smoke in an infant's face - let alone when you're in a shared space.
Lewd posts make the forums less welcoming for a great many users and that type of content is completely unnecessary here. NikeTalk isn't the only site on the Internet. You can discuss that stuff elsewhere and, as I've explained, you're not likely to change Google's mind about thong pictures and the like. As such,noncompliance not only turns prospective users away but it also turns prospective advertisers away. All of this negatively impacts our forums.
I also find it kind of ironic that some of our male users complain about the male:female ratio here, yet refuse to acknowledge the connection. How welcome would you feel on a forum where every other avatar was a closeup of a guy's crotch?
It's not adult; it's childish. And it's hurting our community.
If we give people an inch, clearly they're going to try and take a mile. Let's make this as clear as possible.
If you come across a rule violation, feel free to report it. We have to deal with literally thousands of new posts added to the forums every day. All you have to worry about is YOUR posts. If you don't want any problems, then just follow the rules. It's not that difficult.
