Run Dmc: Weezy & Jay-z Aint hot, people are just brainwashed
DMC (aka Darryl McDaniels) told me:
“It was inevitable that hip-hop became commercialised but along the way our
power got taken away.

“Now you got the same 12 records on radio being
played over and over again. Lil Wayne, Jay Z ain’t hot, it’s just they’re
programmed so many times people are brainwashed.”

The Queens native,
49, reckons he and his golden rap generation had something to say.

DMC
explained: “What made us, KRS, Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul great was that
we wanted to change the world, taking responsibility for our
actions.

“Now everything that’s negative in stupid *** America is
celebrated.”

Run-DMC are hoping to bring a bit of old school positivity
back via a new FW13 Adidas Originals campaign featuring DJ A-Trak.

The
track-suited dudes said: “We took positivity and made it gangsta. We didn’t want
an endorsement, we never knew we would do something historic. It started a tidal
wave of opportunity with marketing.

“Yes, we were materialistic, but if
we rhymed about it once we never said it again.

“Before us people
associated fresh sneakers with drug dealers and black stereotypes.

“So we
sat on stage at Live Aid and showed the world something positive.”

Run
DMC and A-Trak collide for a new Adidas campaign #Unitealloriginals”

Do you agree?

He somewhat has a point but by evidence of the first two posts seems like nobody cares to listen
Maybe because he doesnt really have a point and is just saying nonsense. Now people arent allowed to like someone or else theyre brainwashed? Come on bro.... These people are in heavy rotation becuase its who the people want to hear, theres plently of evidence behind. Millions of people arent spending hundreds of dollars on concert tickets to see these people becuase they're brainwashed, they arent buying albums becuase they're brainwashed, people like these guys becuase they think theyre nice.

said the brainwashed......
How so? I think Lil Wayne sucks, but I'm not going to sit here and deny hes hot. In the case of Jay, the guys been my favorite musician since I was seven years old, way before I was aware of pop culture and its influence so I dont think that applies to me at all.

and of courseeeeee Jay-Z is to blame as usual....

He somehow has a point... He said Jay-Z and Lil Wayne both aren't hot, regardless of what Weezy has become he has Classic Records, Jay-z is arguably the biggest rapper ever and as far as longjevity goes NO ONE has been close to being as hot as he's been for the past two decades.... so where is the point?

I'm sick and ****** tired of all these old ****** jumpin up talkin bout this ain't hiphop, that ain't hiphop.... How about you take your old *** in a studio and create records that can permiate with both the older generation and the youth of today and make a change.

Jay is in his 40's he did it.... Nas is close to being 40 he has done it. All these dudes just upset with another ****** success.

Been saying this for years. Hip Hop is full of followers, no one is on their own and the fans go with whatever they're told.

The funny thing is that I have tons of opinions that are to the contrary of this article: I dont like Nas, Tupac, Andre 3000, and a host of "unquestionable greats" that the majority follows. But because I'm a Jay-Z fan I'm brainwashed? I dont think that his statement should be applied to Lil Wayne and Jay-Z only now should it.

That's crazy. We all have our own taste in music, but that right there is mind boggling.

Therein lies the point. How can I be brainwashed if I dont like people that millions consider all time greats. Unless we're going to limit this conversation to Jay and Wayne only which isnt enough seeing as how his statement can be applied to a host of different artists. But yeah I dont rock with any of those at all. Same way people dont rock with Hov. People are always blown by it and say things like "Your hip-hop pass is revoked, and your opinions of music are now forever invalid" but I've come to accept it. It is what it is.

just when the new school cats want new legend respect old school legends diss golden era and 2000 legends. Hip Hop will never be great and its it own fault

i think ur missing a lil of the point
u dont get tired of hearing the same records on the radio every 10 minutes
i love rap music and enjoy listening to waka and jeezy and countless others spit that ignorant music
but i also miss the uplifting rap that had some substance or something more to say than how many ******* they ****** and how much money they got.
also have u ever not liked a song and because they play it so many times on the radio that u end up knowing the words and it grows on u and u end up liking the song
thats a form of brainwashing.
i know u like to start debates and arguments and all that with people who dont agree with u.
and i dont feel like doing all that. just a heads up

I see people saying he's right.... about what? you mean to tell me that one of the best rappers EVER is only hot because he's promoted alot... wayne is pretty lackluster at one point but did he not grind and smash **** for YEARS to build up that hype.

He said that cats from his era wanted to change the world.... but what changes to the hood did they really make who's to say people draw more positive energy from their records than from a Jay-z record?

It's nothing more than another old cat trying to draw some attention to his career. I don't care how much you dislike em but you gotta be a fool to think that Wayne or Jay-Z didn't grind for years to reach there current status

Then why attack the artist... why not attack the billionaire radio programmers and radio execs that dictate what's on the radio. and FTR i have never hated a song and started to like it because i heard it A lot. Thriftshop was supposedly the biggest song of the year i heard it no more than 5+ times and i listen to music everyday. There are WAYYYY to many other options to listen too music other than the radio.

There is uplifting music from rappers ALL of the time these days.... it's not pushed, not because of the artist not wanting to be positive but because of record labels and media conglomerates not supporting it. But instead of going after the real people behind the problem he wants to attack two of the most successful rap artist in recent memory.

Not to mention EVERYTHING he has done musically for the past 10+ years has been horrid musically. Let's also mention that his group was the first to link hiphop with a bigger audience and show that it can be profittable for big companies.... Hell run DMC is the blood that led the sharks to hiphop so WTF is he talkin about.

people are taking his comments the wrong way
IN MY OPINION
i think he is just saying that radio is only playing or focusing and pushing only negative rap.
i dont think he has any actual problem with jay but when giving this statement
he prolly just named 2 rappers off the top of his head
i mean honestly wayne for example has only been talking about eating girls this and that in every verse for about 3 years now. hasnt said anything of substance or anything that is actually "up lifting" in who knows how long.
i dont expect myself or my kids to look up to lil wayne or anything but im sure there are people out there who do

i didnt like shake ya *** by mystikal at first just to give u an example.
i also didnt like typsy at first by jkwon but both grew on me
and i would assume that IN MY OPINION
that its the artist who has the message(song)
and its up to the artist to relay that message.
and that he just wants the rappers who are in the limelight the ones at the fore front of rap music to bring more positivity
especially with the internet nowadays no reason why an artist cant put out some positive music to the masses
i get what ur saying though dont get me wrong
but at least try to look at it from both sides
ALSO: what is this song thriftshop i hardly listen to regular radio anymore i listen to satellite and honestly its mostly tuned to the foxhole or some news channel when im in the car. i do enjoy rude jude on shade 45 and sway in the morning though
