Honestly? Shoes are a waste.
Is the sum of their relationship worth more or less than a bunch of shoes? Depending on how you answer that question, should give you the answer to yourproblem.
I value my wife more than I value my shoes. If she told me that I had to sell my shoes because we needed the money to have a higher down payment on a house, Iwould oblige. It makes sense. What the hell am I going to do with 100 pairs of shoes and no house to put them in? If she told me that I need to sell my shoesso that she can go shopping, that's a totally different story.
