Literally the first sentence of the article you just linked agreed with my point

Maybe you should read the entire article.

Second paragraph...

"According to the study, those who deployed were at highest risk for suicide attempts in the sixth month of a first deployment, and also five months after returning home from any deployment."

Also, if suicide rates are highest before deployment, doesn't that speak to the underlying climate of military?

People shouldn't be killing them selves in basic. The way the military pretty much turns the other cheek on a lot of issues is a big part of the problem.

Anyways, I didn't even bring up this whole suicide thing. Jays did. In any event, we can still curb a lot of trauma by trimming down our military.

At the rate we make enemies however it's hard to do that now isn't it? All part of the "mission" I suppose.

Key word there is deployed.

I believe it has a lot with the type of people that join. You have people joining looking for a purpose in life and when they realize that the military cannot provide that they get into those dark places.

Right again, what difference does it make? This just distracts from the fact that we don't need such a large standing military.

While we're on the subject however, isn't it disconcerting people are dying before they ship off? Isn't that part of the issue here?

The military is never going to be rainbows and ponies, it's supposed to be a spartan lifestyle. That doesn't mean people should be accustomed to a toxic, often discriminatory environment.

Absolutely agree, 100%. That's another issue I have. People fail to do their due diligence and research what they're signing up for. They don't do enough soul searching to really think about the implications of enlisting.

Granted, the military goes out of their way trying to advertise and target individuals who are searching for purpose.

i agree with you. its easy to advertise to cats looking for a way out. its all kind of "fine print" stuff they dont tell you though. man part of basic is sharing "how my recruiter f@cked me over" stories

All of these issues are worth examining. I think it's time that we make some radical changes. As civilians we're expected to support our military at all times.

It's taboo to speak out against the military. The bumper stickers say it all and I've said this before, "if you don't stand behind our military feel free to stand in front of them".

That mentality is ****ing horrifying. So basically people are saying if I don't support whatever the military does I should fight them?

Bruh....what?

As civilians it's our duty to weigh in on these issues. It's our tax dollars, these are our family members and friends whose lives are at stake and as citizens of the world we have a ****ing right to speak out against unjust military transgressions.

Seemed relevant to the thread and true .

This boils down to paying for estrogen/testosterone medication, hormonal imbalances, and paying for reassignment surgeries ..

Only medical things i can think of

Most ignorant post in here.

You clearly have never spoken to a transgendered person. If you did you would find that statement contrary to the truth.

Did you choose the gender you identify as? Neither did they. Difference is their exterior doesn't match their frame of mind. Trans people may have been born appearing male or female but for as long as they remember they identified otherwise.

Our military budget is like 800 billion. The medical costs associated with transgender people is 10 million. This ain't got **** to do with "costs". The military spends 50 mil on Viagra alone.

Trump is a moron, lets start there but no I don't think it should be allowed.

Not a Trump fan, although I think that it is hilarious how mad he makes weirdo liberals. If someone wishes to wear dresses in their free time, that's all good, but the US military should not have to indulge in their delusional fantasies. Trans whatevers can join the military, they just have to not pretend to be something that they aren't, and they should use the same restrooms as others who share their chromosomes.

I wish their was a neg button so my name could forever be attached to saying this post is straight nonsense.

Good thing no on NT is required to indulge your delusional fantasy that this comment is reasonable.
