In some parts of Africa, women often are blamed for being raped for enticing men or simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Girls who are raped often are shunned by their families.
Yes, this is true. But understand that this is not a formality that is exclusive to Africa. You can find evidence of "victim-blaming" in everycountry, and continent, where males are the pinnacle of the social hierarchy. In other words, in male dominated societies, AMERICA INCLUDED, you will alwaysfind evidence of women being blamed for getting raped.
I know this--how--well for two years, I was a "teacher" in a program called the Violence Against Women Prevention Program (VAWPP) at my university. The program was geared toward educating incoming freshman about matters concerning safe decisionmaking on matters concerning sex and consent. One of the interesting tid-bits i learned during my orientation as a program "teacher" was the factthat in America, the majority of sexual assualts are perpuatrated by individual acquainted with the victim. Additionally, more often than not, in many of thesecases, the female victim is chastized and/or admonished, overtly or covertly, for "putting herself in such a compromising position and allowing that to happen."
So please, don't paint a picture that would suggests that vile acts are relegated to the "savage-African-continent" because that is FALSE.America is, in my opinion, even more despicable than Africa as whole because this country is supposed to "know better" and yet, here in this"great nation", you have people being hung on fences because of their sexual orientation (Mathew Sheppard (sp)), men being dragged by car on stoneand gravel paved roads because of their skin color (Texas), Doc's being murdered in cold blood because of the services they're providing (Abortiondocs), and the most trusted members of society taking advantage of little children in the most depraved way (Priests)--just to give a few example ofcourse...
Relative to Africa, education here in this country is attainable, the standard of living is, on average, good. Though thousands of people live in poverty, which comes into play on matters concerning food and healthcare, the fact is, poor people in the U.S have is substantially GOOD relative to poor people inAfrica. And in general, the average person in America is substantially well of than the average person in Africa. AND YET, with all these benefits andluxuries, people in this country commit acts of violence that are amazingly abhorrent, just like those individuals that live in squalor in Africa'simpoverished regions--
So what's your and America's excuse for this--why is there violence and all manner of evil in this country when by all accounts, America is thepinnacle of a great nation; a nation where immigrants come in search of that which is known as the "American dream", at the expense of leavingeverything they know back home. America is "awesome" relative to many countries so what's the excuse, and why is this nation still so vile andviolent?
The answer = "individualism"...some of you may get this, other's won't.
Point is, it's that very "individualism" that caused those children to act the way they did. Not anything having to do with coming from Liberia. So chill with the ignorance...because I'm seeing a great evidence of it as I browse this thread...
