Im not at all familiar with the transfers and stuff in European Football. But ive never figured out why there isnt a draft in the three big europeanfootball leagues in Europe.

La Liga, Serie A, Premier league

It's a different system where the wealthiest teams get the best players. That's why you see the EPL dominated by 4 teams year after year.

Teams have their own developmental camps where they get their players young (in early teens) and work them up to the big leagues to play for them. That'swhy the big 4 in England dominate so much like homie above me said.

the lack of a draft is a part of why i think the big four dominate, but a bigger reason, i would think, is the lack of a salary cap.

there is really nothing stopping chelsea, united, and city from buying whomever they want.

i don't know why there isn't a draft, but i don't think it's needed.

how do all the other teams in the league still survive with no chance of getting superstars

wouldnt those teams just go bankrupt, and the EPL loses a team

Where you going to draft these kids from? the kids are on development teams since they are teenagers.

ticket sales and tv rights hold em down.

same way from all the other leagues

every kid from the world can declare, and just make it a 12 Round Draft
get UEFA to govern it, and make it so these kids can't declare for the draft until a certain age. So lets say when they're 16, each kid can choosewhich league's draft they want to go for.

For example:
So John might want to declare for the Serie-A draft. and Tom might want to declare for the EPL draft.

Say Arsenal drafts John, so Arsenal has the rights to John and he can't sign with any other EPL team until hes past the age 22. So if John doesnt want toplay for Arsenal, John can go sign with Barcelona, but he cant sign with Man U.

how do they still sell enough tickets when they're team pure out sucks
same thing with tv rights, why would any broadcasting company want to pay that much for watching a crappy team

soccer is different

their fans are loyal despite how suck they are. selling out tickets is not a problem.

Premiership tv rights are sold collectively. Rather than buying tv rights for only the best teams, broadcasters are forced to buy the TV rightsfor EVERY single Premiership team. Not only do broadcasters have to pay to show the games live, but other channels must also pay to show highlights of thegames. Global broadcasters must also pay to show these games/highlights in other countries. When you add all this up, your looking at billions of dollars beingspent to broadcast these matches. Each Premiership club gets an equal share of the broadcasting revenue which is estimated to be around $100 mill (USD) perteam per season. Ofcourse, some clubs also have their own channels (Manchester United TV) which is a source of income as well.

Fans also buy tickets even if their teams stink for a variety of reasons. Soccer is engrained in people's culture. For example, in England, even thetiniest cities have teams and all the locals flock to see the games. Ticket prices are also very affordable unless you're going to see a match at OldTrafford, Stamford Bridge, The Emirates, Anfield, etc. Also, most teams only play about 20-25 homes games a season (including cup games) so it only works outto around 1 home match every 2 weeks. Finally, people pay to see the stars of other teams play. Imagine your a fan of Wigan and you get to see Man Utd. play atthe JJB Stadium for the equivalent of only $20-$30 USD. You get to see C. Ronaldo, Rooney...pretty much the best team in the world come thrash your local squadfor not much money at all

About the drafting...the youth system in soccer has been around forever. The best youth do not necessarily come from the biggest senior level squads. Someteams are notorious for developing young players and then selling them for huge profits. The most notable example is Ajax which has had one of the bestdevelopment systems in the world for many years but has not held onto the players in recent years to win trophies...rather, they've sold the players forobscene amounts of money.

Yeah, because it's fair for the Yankees to buy the top three free agents every off-season.

haha bingo...if you have the money and you're willing to throw it at a player, you can get em.

some times they're teens, but they are looking to educate younger kids. starting at age 6 or something. then they develop their talents, make them go toschool. kinda how highschool basketball is done. and then hopefully when that kid is old enough and talented they play for that clubs first team. and if theydo well, other teams from other countries might offer contracts that are worth millions.

Dont the big teams like Chelsea get pissed because the bad teams are taking some of their TV revenue money.

How can the bad teams sell tickets for that little, and they dont even get to see superstar players every game

Since you're from Ontario, i can bring in the OHL as part of the discussion. Why is it as a culture they never left the development to seperate juniorclubs. And then develop them with their own resources once the player is of age, as part of their property

If all the teams are getting equal doe how can a next team be pissed??

As for tickets...alot of true football fans here go to every game regardless. Their whole weekend revolves around that %*$#....dont who they're playing orif the wife catchin feelings., they're in the stand. Really is like a religion to alot of people.

Young players...I'd say its because of how the system was set up. Back on the day, clubs couldn't go scouting up and down the country and across theworld looking for talent. They had to work with what was in the area and bring them through the ranks. (This was when it was majority english players) Clubsstill do this now. If you've got a good system in place, you know you'l have good players constantly coming through to either supplement your squad orto sell on to other clubs.

na... i was saying wont the big teams that are generating the majority of that TV revenue money be pissed, that every team is getting equal money. wouldntthey want more money, and the bad teams get less doe.

I get that they treat the sport as a religion. But not the part about how cubs can maintain the team running when they're not charging much for thetickets. Do they just have a much much smaller stadium, and much cheaper players to pay for.
