Feb. 27, 2019 - CBS All Access today announced the third season renewal of its hit original series STAR TREK: DISCOVERY. It was announced that Michelle Paradise will join Alex Kurtzman as co-showrunner of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY's third season. In addition to his role as showrunner of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY, Kurtzman will continue to oversee the expansion of the growing "Star Trek" universe for CBS Studios.

"Michelle joined us midway through season two and energized the room with her ferocious knowledge of 'Trek,'" said Alex Kurtzman. "Her grasp of character and story detail, her drive and her focus have already become essential in ensuring the 'Trek' legacy, and her fresh perspective always keeps us looking forward. I'm proud to say Michelle and I are officially running STAR TREK: DISCOVERY together."

"The massive success of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY's second season launch exceeded our expectations in both driving subscriber growth and generating a phenomenal response from 'Star Trek' fans," said Julie McNamara, Executive Vice President, Original Content, CBS All Access. "With Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise at the helm, we look forward to continuing STAR TREK: DISCOVERY's journey, growing the 'Star Trek' franchise on CBS All Access and bringing fans new 'Star Trek' stories for many years to come."

Prior to serving as co-executive producer on STAR TREK: DISCOVERY's second season, Michelle Paradise was co-executive producer on the television series "The Originals" on The CW. She also wrote for the series "Rogue" on the Audience network and The CW's "Hart of Dixie." Additionally, Paradise created, wrote and starred in the MTV/Logo series "Exes & Ohs."

After answering a distress signal from the U.S.S. Enterprise, season two of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY finds the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery joining forces with Captain Christopher Pike on a new mission to investigate seven mysterious red signals and the appearance of an unknown being called the Red Angel. While the crew must work together to unravel their meaning and origin, Michael Burnham is forced to face her past with the return of her estranged brother, Spock.

STAR TREK: DISCOVERY season two cast members include Sonequa Martin-Green (Commander Michael Burnham), Michelle Yeoh (Philippa Georgiou), Doug Jones (Commander Saru), Shazad Latif (Ash Tyler), Anson Mount (Captain Christopher Pike), Anthony Rapp (Lt. Commander Paul Stamets), Mary Wiseman (Ensign Sylvia Tilly), Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber), Mary Chieffo (L'Rell), and Ethan Peck (Spock).

The first six episodes of STAR TREK: DISCOVERY's second season are currently available to stream on CBS All Access. All new episodes will be available on demand weekly after 8:30 PM, ET on Thursdays exclusively for CBS All Access subscribers in the U.S., and are distributed concurrently by CBS Studios International on Netflix in 188 countries and in Canada on Bell Media's Space channel and OTT service Crave. The entire first season of the series is also available to watch on demand.

It's like Pike feels a certain way about coming in and he knows he's a temporary captain for this mission.

Saru just growing in his role.

Still crazy to me see how they're recklessly breaking the prime directive.

second season is great so far. easily the best star trek series of them all imo. if you like sci-fi, you should be watching it.

I dont know about all that. Show has some interesting characters but nothing likenthe loveable ones from the several 90s series.

i was never a fan of the original series but i liked next generation and deep space 9. the one with captain janeway was ok.

For me it goes DS9 > TNG > TOS > VOY > ENT

Not sure where Disco fits yet, but probably between TNG and TOS right now.

TNG> DS9>VOY>ENT

I leave off the original series because I haven’t watched it straight through. I grew up watching the reruns. I actually just finished a DS9 rewatch. My fiance thought Burnham was the first black lead for a series so I had to get her hip to Sisco lol.

Disco has been pretty good so far especially on the back end of this season. Hopefully the finale is great!

DS9 would've beem first but I honestly couldny jive with the heavily intertwined religious backdrop for the entire series and them how it ends.

Still wish before the movie reboot they gave DS9 and Voyages a joint movie. Janeway gets promoted to admiral, Chakotay is captain of Voyager, maybe run in to the Caretaker again, then come across Sisko just done with his tinw in the prophets but lost in beta quadrant or something. Main villains gotta be Gul Dukat and those hunter aliens from Voyager all happening in Romulans territory. Then add in extra sci fi wild ****. Maybe Q

Same except I can't watch TOS. My mind just won't accept and get beyond the effects.
I powered through it and it does have the shortest amount of episodes of all the ST series.

I agree that the religious aspects of the show were indeed heavy handed at times. It did lead to some interesting contrasts especially between the Dominion and Bajorins(sp?).

The movie idea sounds wild lol but I do wish they did something with those crews.

this past week's episode's intro ran 14 minutes before segue into the opening credits/ theme song. for some reason, that was highly enjoyable.

Star Trek: Picard producer reveals 7 new details about series

Star Trek: Picard team is pulling back the veil on the upcoming series that returns Patrick Stewart to role he played for seven seasons on the 1990s syndicated hit series Star Trek: The Next Generation and in four feature films.

Executive producer Alex Kurtzman and showrunner Michael Chabon gave EW some new hints about Jean-Luc Picard’s journey in the upcoming CBS All-Access series. Until now, the only teaser has shown Picard in retirement at his family’s vineyard in France and included a cryptic voiceover suggesting the admiral left Starfleet after he led an armada on a rescue mission to the doomed planet Romulus.

Here are five things we learned:

1. Yes, Picard is going back into space. Strangely enough for a Trek series, nothing space-y has yet been shown regarding the new show, which has entirely terrestrial marketing images so far. Even our basic questions like, “Can you at least say if the show is set on a spaceship?” were dodged when we asked the producers. But Kurtzman confirms the new Star Trek will live up to its name. “Events began to unfold that conspire to take Picard back to the stars,” Kurtzman says.

2. But that doesn’t mean Picard is returning to Starfleet. “He will [go to space],” Kurtzman adds, “but not in a way that anyone expects.” What does that mean? It sounds like Picard won’t simply get drafted back into commanding a starship — especially considering what Kurtzman reveals next.

3. Picard seeks to fight a specific injustice, yet won’t have his usual resources. “Because he’s no longer in Starfleet, he no longer carries the weight of that behind him,” Kurtzman says. “In some ways, it’s easier to be [a great man] when you’re a captain. But it’s an entirely different thing when you don’t have an army behind you. When you want to get something done and fight an injustice, how do you do that when you’re really only one man?”

4. His quest will be a serialized story in the first season, unlike the episodic The Next Generation. “Which isn’t necessarily new for Star Trek,” Chabon said, noting that Discovery is often serialized too, “but that is new for Picard.”

5. Picard is “haunted” and older but fundamentally remains the same character. “There are many things that haunt Picard,” Kurtzman teases, adding the ill-fated Romulous mission is just one of those things. And Chabon notes the series will incorporate that the character is a different age. “He’s a lot older and we’re not shying away from that at all — we’re dealing with a man who’s in a very different place in his life,” Chabon says. Yet at the same time, Picard will still be the man you know and love. “It was terribly important to us that he remains fundamentally Picard,” Kurtzman says. “You will not see a version that betrays the man we loved from Next Generation. We’re not doing that. But we wanted to put a character with that level of morality and leadership and who always does the right thing no matter how hard the circumstances … we wanted to put that to the test.”

6. Other Next Generation actor appearances are not being ruled out. The producers just want to make sure they’re not, you know, cheesy. “What we don’t want to do is just throw in cameos,” Kurtzman says. “There would have to be an incredibly specific story reason [for them to be there].” Former Next Gen star Jonathan Frakes was previously announced as directing two episodes in the first season, but there’s no word if he appears on camera. The show’s new regular cast members (Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera, and Harry Treadaway) are not playing any familiar Next Gencharacters, Kurtzman confirms.

7. Stewart as Picard is better than you’ve ever seen him. “The quality of Patrick’s acting, if anything, has gotten even better over time and he was already a master,” Chabon says. “He has an ability to hold you riveted even when he’s just sitting and listening.” Naturally. Picard is always at his best when he looks … engaged.

The Star Trek: Picard panel is Saturday at Comic-Con and EW will have full coverage.

Reading that makes me think of future Picard in the TNG final episodes where his mind was bouncing around time cuz of Q just minus the brain disease.
