While I'll admit that I enjoyed the avengers, let it noted that I enjoyed TDK/TDKR better. I just personally don't like the thought of all these franchises being underneath the Disney, umbrella, media conglomerate. Fact is the Disney brand has an image it would like to maintain, and I feel like this could potentially clash with some content that may arise with some of the acquired brands. This is just me be super pessimistic, though Diversity and competition within any given market place is healthy. Always! I'm likely over-reacting, but I'm still not a fan of the merger. ...
People who state that they're worried about Disney meddling with studios they acquire are pretty dumb. If Disney followed that logic it would put a hamper on which companies they can acquire and that would severely limit their growth. Don't confuse Walt Disney Animation Studios with the Walt Disney Company. The brands they acquire operate the same as they always did except they're under Disney now. Since they're under Disney they will have bigger budget, higher standards, and produce better films. Lucasfilm is creating the film WITHOUT George Lucas. Disney is distributing it. That's the best possible news any Star Wars fan could ever achieve. I respect George Lucas for creating Star Wars but his meddling and constantly changing scenes then changing them back did a lot of harm to the Star Wars legacy. After the first trilogy, he has done nothing but dilute the Star Wars brand.
This is all well and good, 7, 8, and 9 can be whatever. And honestly, having 3 new movies in which I don't know where they are going, I'm cool with that. My question, and what means more to me is simple, will they, at some point begin to film the expanded universe? THAT'S what I care about. Do the new Trilogy, great, thank you, but in 2021 or whenever, I want to see Thrawn, Daala, Jade, Karrde, Noghri, Pallaeon, Joruus C'baoth, Sabacc, Delta Source, Katana Fleet, the Maw, ALL THAT ****. THEN, after all that fun stuff, let's go back, let me get some Sith Wars, Mandalorian Wars, Thought Bombs, Darth Bane, Darth Plagueis, Sidious, holocrons, And then we can jump back ahead, and do all the new stuff. That's what I want to know. Not today, not tomorrow, but at some point, do they plan on opening the vault and giving me what I want? They better.
Yes I do think so. Those reasons have nothing to do with the movie itself head to head against another movie. If legacy determines how good a movie is to you then It devalues the actual movie itself. Oh good reasons they were first so they automatically have to be better
At the time, the originals were something that was new and somewhat have never been done before. It was fresh and a start of a movement for that time period. The prequels didn't have that wow effect after watching them like the originals did. They were good, just not as good.
thats the thing, while I appreciate the originals to me they are old movies. So while Empire was awesome, Im more inclined to go with the more up to date visually and imo just as entertaining (return was dumb and I think that people just let nostalgia cloud their judgement. Gimme ep 2-3 over 6 anyday) But also I think its probably an age thing. Im 23 and as a 10 year old, I liked my movies to be beautiful and cool looking with alot of action. Thats 1 thing the prequels captured. Plus those lightsaber fights were amazing, in 1-3
Those of you who don't believe there are places to go. This video shows otherwise. If they did even HALF as good as this stuff, live action, we'll never be the same.
^ They can do that too. Like I said, we should be invaded by Star Wars projects pretty soon. We can have cartoons, live action series, live action movies, animation movies, more novels gotta be in the pipeline now I would imagine, it's all unlocked. Lucas finally opened the treasure chest, now it's just gotta get sorted out, pick the right writers, directors, and start organizing when and where everything is going to get made. It's only been a couple days and I'm still high off this news. I never thought it would happen, I thought the entire franchise was going to go away because he wouldn't let it out of his control. I'm so glad he did.
You're overreacting and/or being pessimistic like you yourself have said. Also I don't see how you think there won't be competition anymore. There is competition but you're thinking about the wrong names. This acquisition will push Newscorp that owns 20th Century Fox, NBC Universal that owns Universal studios, Viacom that owns Paramount, Sony that owns Columbia and Time Warner that owns Warner Bros. among other film studios I haven't named to continue to make moves and come up with ideas to produce different films that will make a lot of money. I assumed you mean competition for movies in general (which varies) since it isn't a direct competition all the time and not just specifically competition of sci-fi space movies. The way Disney has handled Pixar and Marvel studios with basically a hands off approach seems great and has worked out well for everyone so far. I agree about Disney's image and how that'll affect certain movies that aren't children friendly. For instance, I'm already hearing talk that since FOX has lost the rights to Daredevil it's unlikely a DD movie will be made by Marvel cuz that character's darker tone doesn't jive with the current Marvel cinematic universe or Disney's image but Disney has already got around being able to make money off movies that don't reflect their image with Touchstone Films which have produced movies like Miracle at St. Anna, The Village, The Prestige, 25th Hour, etc. So really imo if you end up not liking the movies, feel they're not the same since the acquisition, blame whoever was directly involved and not just Disney.
For Star Wars? I honestly think that'd be too much for him or he'd cut out a lot to fit w/e vision he has in mind for the film. I know as of now they (Disney) are rumored to have only made the purchase for Star Wars but I feel eventually they'll smarten up and do some Indy flicks, then I'd want Nolan all over that
No one has released details about it yet (too early), plus you would see endless discussion in the thread already if they did release details about the story...
Not for the main trilogy they are going for, but a Christopher Nolanesque side story set in that universe would be cool.
Agreed. Although I'd be curious to see Nolan's take on Star Wars, it's just not the movie for his style. I've only seen bits and pieces of Star Wars movies, so I'll have to catch up before this comes out...
Forget Harry Potter world in Orlando at Islands Of Adventure can we get a Star Wars based theme park to add to Disney World? half of the park be the dark side and the republic have storm troppers and jedi's roaming automatic doors for shops and bathrooms imagine a pod racer ride at night the park would be sick :x
