Seattle SuperSonics Thread

I thought maybe this got bumped because of the A-Rod Minnesota deal. For some reason that’s got the Sonics chatter started again.... I don’t see it though

I have no faith in that ownership group, they’ve been looking to purchase whatever franchise they could get their hands on for a while now It’s just an investment to them, they ain’t really trying to win. **** a-rod too.

Nah, they got the no relocation clause in the purchasing agreement. Wolves won’t be moving anytime soon.

Report: ‘Widely believed’ NBA will add expansion teams in Seattle, likely Las Vegas

After NBA commissioner Adam Silver talked more seriously about expansion, league officials made a concerted effort to downplay the inevitability of expansion.
But nobody believes them.

Michael Grange of Sportsnet:
"It’s widely believed the NBA will expand for the first time since rounding out to 30 teams in 2004 partly to recoup losses from the pandemic. Returning to Seattle as part of the process is almost a given (with Las Vegas as the other likely city) now that the arena issues that led to the Supersonics leaving for Oklahoma City in 2008 have been resolved."
The concept of expansion is fairly simple: Current owners agree to divide future revenue among more teams in exchange for an immediate injection of cash. That becomes more appealing in the aftermath of coronavirus-caused shortfalls.

Seattle is a logical location for an expansion team. A second city is more wide open, though Las Vegas is the most common guess.
Expansion isn’t certain. But, at this point, more people are discussing when than if.

Rumor: Alex Rodriguez wants to move Timberwolves to Seattle

Future Timberwolves owner Alex Rodriguez playing for Seattle Mariners

Glen Taylor’s official agreement to sell the Timberwolves to Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore – contrary to Taylor’s public statements – reportedly does not prohibit the new owners from moving the team.
Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press:
There’s buzz now that Kevin Garnett, who is said to be worth more than $200 million, will be heavily involved in the Timberwolves basketball department if he joins franchise investors Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore if/when they gain full control in 2023. The word is Garnett, the ex-Timberwolf, wants the franchise to remain in Minnesota but Rodriguez wants to move it to Seattle, where he played for seven seasons.
That’s a lot of hedges on Garnett. If Rodriguez and Lore buy the team (which I still expect after the latest snag). If Garnett joins (which seems far less certain). But it’s at least something to watch after Garnett appeared to be out of the picture.

Rodriguez supposed desire to move the franchise to Seattle – where he played baseball for the Mariners – is also far from certain to materialize.
The NBA must approve all relocations. The league could prefer putting an expansion team in Seattle and getting a large expansion fee – reportedly in the $2.5 billion range. Letting the Timberwolves take that desirable market would likely lower the expansion fee the NBA could get elsewhere.

Honestly a crazy random rumor and obviously the NBA is trying to get that expansion $$$. Rather start with a fresh squad too. Would be dope to have a timeline though...

No respect for the OP.

League and owners would never approve the move

If they didn't do it when the Kings who were basically at the goal line from leaving town it ain't happening in this situation

This will all be used as leverage for a new arena and for the city to help foot the bill when the time comes

Appreciate that bro, just got a chance to watch it. Good stuff 🔥 I gotta catch some more of those interviews

Yea, we've talked about it before but I definitely respect yall's hoop scene over there man. Yall definitely seem like one big family. Each generation looking out for the next.

This episode of All The Smoke with IT definitely brought back some memories as they relieve his famous shot in the Pac 10 tournament. He also talks about the Seattle hoop scene with likes of Crawford, Robinson, Broy, Murray and several others. They even get Jamal on the phone so hoping he's on the pod soon.
