The 2014 NBA Trade Deadline Thread

Honestly thought this thread would have a lot more action, but I guess not being that nothing has happened....yet...

About 10 days away from the deadline... Gotta see what teams start to get desperate and what teams becomes buyers or sellers

There haven't been many rumors, and everything just gets discussed in the NBA season thread

Trades I think should happen:
Pau Gasol for Emeka Okafor
Turner/Thad out of Philly
Warriors make a move to tinker

Names floated in trade talks:
Brandon Bass for Warriors or Bobcats
Jeff Green
Turner for Bobcats or Spurs

Rejected:
Suns approached Grizz about Z-Bo

Who's the buyer for Evan Turner?

Damn, Evan Turner is such a Bobcats kind of player....  In a bad way.
Should have been traded earlier in the season when ET was riding hot. Game-winners against Brooklyn and Boston will help his portfolio.

Please just get assets. He's not a piece of the future.

Think he'd fit well on spurs, Mavs, Atlanta, Denver, Detroit, utah

Can honestly say I've never seen Evan Turner play.

I just of his name from the disdain of Sixers fans.

Good , Bad , Ugly on him ?
Handled the ball a lot and ran the show at Ohio State. Developing somewhat of a clutch gene. Can play 2 or 3. Kinda slow and not overly athletic. Doesn't shoot particularly well, limited range on the jumper.

Warriors looking for help as trade deadline nears

With the Feb. 20 NBA trade deadline nearing, count the Golden State Warriors among the long list of teams still looking to improve its roster.

According to a person with knowledge of the Warriors' situation, Golden State is on the lookout for bench help and is hoping to use its trade exceptions as a way to facilitate such a deal that would likely need to involve three teams. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of trade discussions.

The Warriors have two sizable trade exceptions ($9 million and $4 million) that don't expire until next summer, as well as two smaller exceptions (approximately $780,000) that expire on Feb. 17.

Even with the recent trade with the Boston Celtics for backup point guard Jordan Crawford, the Warriors (31-21) still have one of the least productive bench units in the NBA and are well aware that their second unit will need more help for the post-All-Star break playoff push. According to hoopsstats.com, Golden State's second unit is 29th among 30 teams in bench scoring (24.1 points per game).

Traded player exceptions allow teams to acquire players without giving player(s) back in return, and teams looking to shed salary will surely be calling the Warriors soon to explore the many money-saving possibilities on this front. If there is a deal to be done, it's highly unlikely that it would involve the $9 million trade exception because of Golden State's already-steep payroll.

The Warriors are approximately $2.5 million under the league's luxury tax threshold and would only consider using the largest of their exceptions for a major impact player.

Please take Steve Blake off the Lakers' hands.

Here are some other tidbits gathered in New Orleans on Friday with the trade deadline six days away:

The Charlotte Bobcats, clinging to the eighth playoff spot in the East, will be aggressive buyers at the deadline, league sources say. The team's interest in Sixers guard Evan Turner is real. Philadelphia GM Sam Hinkie wants a first-round pick for Turner (and the same for Spencer Hawes). The Bobcats can offer their Detroit pick if they're serious about making a push.

The Nuggets, who stumbled into the break losing four straight road games by a combined 110 points, are looking to revive trade talks for point guard Andre Miller, who hasn't played since Dec. 30. The Sixers are one team that could absorb his $5 million salary, but Denver would prefer to find a team that needs Miller for a playoff push and thus would be willing to give up an asset. With an underachieving team and payroll that is clogged up for the next two seasons, the Nuggets are expected to be active at the deadline. One person in contact with Denver officials said everyone on the roster is up for trade discussion except Ty Lawson.

Several teams have called Milwaukee about point guard Luke Ridnour, including Washington and Sacramento, a league source said. The Bucks are also fielding calls about their young players, as teams are dubious that owner Herb Kohl is serious about going through the pain of a youth movement. (It's been painful enough as it is.) But the message from the Bucks has been consistent: Barring a significant offer, their young assets are staying put.

Suns GM Ryan McDonough has informed inquiring teams over the past few weeks that if Phoenix is still in the playoff hunt at the break, he will be aggressive in the trade market in an attempt to push the team into the postseason. The Suns hit the break in the seventh spot in the West, but one rival executive says Phoenix will not take parting with draft picks lightly and isn't interested in taking on future salary. At least one of those conditions would have to change to turn the Suns' aggressive posture into an actual trade.

The trade dynamics are much more fluid than at recent deadlines, especially in the East. Several teams are on the borderline between pulling back and positioning for a better draft pick and making a move to push for a playoff spot. With 30 losses apiece, for example, the Bobcats and Pistons are on the cusp of a fruitless postseason venture as the seventh or eighth seed, which would almost certainly mean a first-round sweep at the hands of Indiana or Miami. But they're also only five games out of the fourth spot, which could deliver home-court advantage in a winnable first-round series.

I want Turner for Detroit's first as a Sixers supporter, but from Charlotte's perspective it makes little sense. Why? It's likely the Bobcats fade out of the playoff picture and relinquish the last spot to the Knicks, Cavs, or Pistons. Far better offensive talent and firepower on those three squads. Secondly, Cho will be hesitant to give Turner a long-term contract after signing Henderson to an extension and still holding onto MKG.

He's just a guy who does everything okay and nothin great. And that's at his best. At his worst he does some things awful and nothing great.

How does this help the Suns?

Give Len a mentor?
That but more importantly keep them in playoff contention. Bledsoe is likely done for the season and Dragic can't keep this up for 82 games. Hornacek is doing a tremendous job but the Suns need a piece. Get something for Mek's expiring. They have up to four first-rounders in '14. Use your assets to remain competitive and fend off the Grizz.
