The 2014 NBA Trade Deadline Thread

It goes without saying that Woj, Sam Amick, Marc Stein and Ken Berger belong on the Mt. Rushmore of the NBA trade deadline.

Thank ******* God that Rondo didn't allow the Celtics to get Ben + 2 more draft picks at their disposal. :smh:

Kinda wondering if we're going to see any real activity. No one wants to give up picks this year, and everyone tryin to stay under the cap, so this could be one boring *** deadline.

Sources: T'wolves, Grizzlies discuss deal that includes Chase Budinger and Tayshaun Prince

The Memphis Grizzlies are discussing a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves centered on forward Chase Budinger and guard J.J. Barea, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Memphis wants to include forward Tayshaun Prince into the package and the deal could be expanded to include guard Tony Allen, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Components of a proposed deal are still fluid.

Memphis has been furiously trying to unload Prince and the remaining $7.2 million (2013-'14) and $7.7 million (2014-'15) on his contract, league sources said.

Minnesota general manager Flip Saunders is believed to want to add defensive toughness to his roster, and that would make Allen a natural to fill the Wolves' void.

Budinger, 25, missed much of the early season recovering from knee surgery, and has averaged six points in 17.7 minutes per game this season.

Barea, 29, is averaging 8.7 points in 18 minutes per game this season.

I'm fine with it. The Wolves obviously can't break through offensively enough to win more games and with Martin going down they might as well just shift their focus to defense.

It's whatever.

With how well Lil Zeke is playing how could you even set yourself up to get fleeced like that with him playing for pennies?

~~The Milwaukee Bucks have been looking to deal guard Gary Neal for a few weeks, even though they just signed him to a deal this offseason for two-year, $6.5 million. After having reported a run-in with center Larry Sanders, in which he told Sanders to start earning his money, Neal's name immediately popped up in rumors and reports to be moved. He almost had his wish of getting on a playoff team.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Charlotte Bobcats recently had talks that gained traction to acquire Neal and teammate Caron Butler. However, those talks have crumbled the past few days and it looks like a trade won't happen as of right now. With the trade deadline on Thursday, the Bucks won't have many more opportunities to move Neal or Butler's expiring contract.

The Bobcats have shooting guard Ben Gordon to offer up to make a trade easy to complete, but Gordon's expiring deal means the Bucks would only be saving a little bit of money for next season while paying more this season if the deal goes through. It's possible an exchange of draft picks (likely second rounders) would be the reason any deal might fall apart.
SMFH all over not wanting to swap 2nd rounders? Would fill needs for us. Hopefully Cho revisits this.

Windhorst saying us and phx are inquiring about Gasol. Local beat writer(who is horrible) says deal unlikely

Alright Sixers....time to get something done. This is where we trade three of our 5 total NBA players on roster to turn the tank into the super-tank for the remainder of the season.

Five Players Who Might Help The Bobcats, Assuming They Are Available

The Bobcats are looking to make just their second playoff appearance in their decade-long history. Obviously they could use some help offensively, as they are 24th or worse among 30 NBA teams in scoring, field-goal percentage and free-throw percentage.

They have some potential assets to deal, in Ben Gordon’s expiring contract (a $13.2 million cap value) and future first-round picks owed them by Portland and Detroit.

With all that in mind, here’s a look at five veterans who have been mentioned as potentially available in trade:

Evan Turner, 76ers forward-guard: He averages 17.5 points, but he’s more a scorer than a shooter (43 percent from the field, 29 percent from 3-point range). The issue is whether Turner would be a long-term difference-maker on this team. He’s available because he expects a lot more in his next contract than the Sixers are willing to spend.

Arron Afflalo, Magic shooting guard: He’s averaging 19.4 points on a bad team. He’s a fine shooter – 46 percent from the field, 43 percent from 3-point range, 82 percent from the foul line. He makes $7.5 million this season, the same next season. He’d be an ideal sixth man, IF the Magic doesn’t want the moon to give him up.

Greg Monroe, Pistons power forward: An efficient, versatile big man averaging 14.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 52 percent from the field. If he’s available – and that’s maybe a reach – it’s because the Pistons overspent on Josh Smith and Monroe is approaching restricted free-agency. No way would Detroit give him up on the cheap.

Brandon Bass, Celtics big man: He could offer some scoring (10.8 ppg), rebounding (5.8 per game) and front-court experience. Is that worth giving up a first-round pick and taking on his salary? ($6.4 million this season, $6.9 million next). Bass would have to play with the reserves, because he’d get in the way of Al Jefferson in the post.

Gary Neal, Bucks guard: Neal has fallen out of favor in Milwaukee. He’s still averaging 10.2 points, but his shooting (39 percent from the field, 36 percent from 3-point) is less than impressive. He makes $3.25 million this season and next.

I kind of thought the Celtics and Suns had enough assets in their warchest to get a deal for Kevin Love done.

But Flip Saunders will probably keep him until the summer.

It's the Kings man, that's what they do.

Man, Kevin Love to the Celtics, could you even imagine the bs we'd have to listen too with Bill Simmons? 9,000 word articles weekly on each outlet pass he views. It would be terrible. :smh:

T'Wolves :smh:

Adding mediocre talent knowing that the end is near.

Strike a deal before it's too late and you get nothing.

We all know he's gone

Sources: Rockets exploring Asik trades again

The Rockets have renewed efforts to trade disgruntled center Omer Asik, with the Philadelphia 76ers emerging once again as a potential landing spot, league sources told CBSSports.com on Tuesday.

The two teams engaged in serious discussions on an Asik deal in December, when the Rockets were trying to move the defensive-minded center so they could aggregate any players acquired for use in future deals. With that possibility long gone, Houston GM Daryl Morey has re-opened trade talks, and the Sixers have more payroll flexibility than any team in the league to make a deal work.

The Sixers are $11 million under the salary cap, meaning they can absorb Asik's $8.4 million salary without sending back any players. They also have to add $5.1 million to their payroll to meet the league's salary floor of $52.8 million.

According to executives who've engaged in conversations with Houston about Asik, Morey is still setting the price high for the Turkish 7-footer, who was lured away from the Bulls as a restricted free agent in 2012. The structure of the offer sheet Asik signed, which calls for him to be paid $15 million next season, has been problematic. Though his cap hit would be only $8.4 million in 2014-15, any team acquiring Asik before Thursday's deadline would face an expenditure of $17 million for him to play a little more than 100 games -- a tough sell for any owner under the restrictive CBA.

Due to that expense, teams like the Raptors and Nets have no interest in acquiring Asik, sources say. The Hawks like him, but not at the Rockets' current asking price. The problem in assembling a deal with the Sixers is the same problem the teams experienced in December, only worse because more of Asik's total compensation over the next two years is in the rear-view mirror.

The Rockets want a first-round pick for Asik, sources say. The Sixers have New Orleans' 2014 pick (1-5 protected), but are looking to use their cap space to acquire first-round picks -- not divest them. Philadelphia's floor-spacing Spencer Hawes interests the Rockets, but the Sixers have been asking teams for a first-round pick in return.

I don't know why the Pistons are stalling on this Monroe thing.... That team as constructed can't keep him and they could get some pretty good assets for him. I think a trade involving him, Villinueva's expiring for Jeff Green & a pick would work out excellent for both teams.

Pistons lineup would be

Jennings
Stuckey
Green
Smith
Drummond

along with atleast two 1st picks in the upcoming draft.

I swear I still don't understand why the **** the Sixers would want Asik. Where the hell does he fit other than coming off the bench again? Noel ain't playing the 4.

Kevin Love and Rondo would be dope as **** by the way. Boat load of cap room to work with this summer as well.
