The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

I really didn't realize how much bigger Conor is than most of the division outside of Aldo. Both these guys kill themselves to make 145 :lol

Interesting to note that I don't think Norman and Conor get along
Defeated Mendes twice, who is the clear #2 at featherweight after Jose.

It's only "clear" when he beats the rest of the guys at the top of the division.

Dude got his 2nd fight with Aldo after beating Nik Lentz. Who hasn't beaten a top dog.

Mendes is great....but let's keep it real here.

"Irish Muhammad Ali"?

Get ALL THE WAY THE **** OUT OF HERE.
To give McGregor credit, he seemed uncomfortable with that distinction. He explained on ESPN that Ali was a cultural icon who was an impact on the world outside of sports

Terrible comparison for anyone to even dare make

I didn't put that on Conor. I actually kind of like him and any fighter in their right mind would be uncomfortable with that.

And for the record, when I said I'd like to see Aldo wash him in Ireland, I didn't mean I thought it was an easy fight for Aldo.

I just like the idea of Aldo silencing the **** out of that crowd after all of this pomp and circumstance surrounding McGregor.

Which, again, isn't really ALL his doing.

i am a big fan of McGregor but this recent crazy media push is annoying and turning me off of McGregor.

Book Edgar/Mendes. They both lost to Aldo in the last year or so. No one is chomping at the bit for a rematch with either.

I think the losses to Pettis and RDA might have changed Benson's mind about moving to 170 lbs. Before losing to Pettis he was talking about wanting a super fight with GSP at 170 lbs and if he won he would stay there. Then even after the Pettis fight there was talk about the RDA fight being his last at 155 before moving up.
Bendo does seem enamored by the idea of a super-fight with GSP. Decision would be the most likely result in that bout, in Rush's favor of course.

Interesting if Smooth defeats Cowboy for a third time, does he get the next title shot and a third crack at Pettis (after RDA)? Does Bendo fight Khabib for a title eliminator, or perhaps another opponent while Nurmagomedov waits for his chance at the belt?

It's pretty clear to me since Money tightened up his striking with Bang and started securing knockouts. All the TAM guys wrestle well, Chad's an explosive athlete, and his only two career losses are to the current and reigning 145 champ.

Speaks volumes when the king of featherweight calls Mendes "the prince of 145." The consensus is Chad took two rounds off Aldo in October in Brasil. Caused the most significant damage and danger I've seen to Jose in his 7 UFC title defenses.

Frankie had the benefit of fighting Aldo in Vegas. It's clear he won a round off Jose, and you can certainly argue two (I'm of that belief). But many educated MMA analysts and fans believe it was 49-46 in favor of Aldo.

I'm personally only annoyed if Conor doesn't back it up. He's done so against Diamond, Brandao, and Brimage. I don't think McGregor dispatches Siver within 2 minutes, more like within two rounds in my estimation.

Love watching Cerrone fight, but Bendo's my guy. I can never root against Smooth or NBK. Hoping we get another treat like the war in 2009 in WEC.

Hall really has no excuse to not finish Stallings. Late replacement, UFC newcomer, been finished 3 times in his career.

Book Edgar/Mendes. They both lost to Aldo in the last year or so. No one is chomping at the bit for a rematch with either.
Would love to see it if Conor wins tonight and gets Aldo next in a few months. Very similar fighters are Mendes and Frankie. No real holes in either of their games. Chad younger, Edgar more experienced. Frankie probably has the cardio and chin edge, but Mendes is likely the more explosive athlete with more KO power in his hands after all the work and training with Bang.

phillyzphan phillyzphan :
"Bully" Lamas giving Cub a rematch piques my interest in 2015. Winner of that fight gets the next title shot after Mendes/Frankie. Assuming Conor takes care of business tonight and solidifies his tilt with Aldo.

^ A few days ago I kept seeing people mentioning that a Mendes/Lamas fight was close to being finalized for a card in March or April.

I'm all for it. As stated, prefer Mendes/Frankie and Bully/Cub. Wonder where that leaves Edgar if the UFC indeed books Money/Lamas.

Easier to justify Cub having to regain his status in the title shot picture and conversation, but Frankie is already getting passed for Conor in the eyes of many (in terms of merit).

The UFC promos during the playoff game today have been so damn bad

Mendes called out Lamas late last year. Don't think it was ever official.

I'm hoping they do Edgar/Mendes if Conor wins.

I like that Gus/Johnson, Rory/Lombard are squaring off. Make the best fights between the best guys. I feel like that didn't always happen.

While Frankie's done more than a lot of dudes for a title fight, If he's not fighting Also, give us the next best thing.

OK. Clear to you.

But "clear" is a strong word to me until Chad actually beats the rest of the best around him.

What Jose believes is great. :lol @ "prince of 145".

What you believe is great. But that doesn't make it "clear".

Yes, you can reflect on Edgar/Aldo 1. Location and all of that.

And you could have done the same after Mendes/Aldo 1.

Semantics really.

These things become clear-er at least, when these guys fight. Let's keep it real here.

Watching Frankie absolutely dominate Cub makes it tough for me to not say he's right with Chad Mendes. Them two just need to match up, let Lamas just be on the outside for now.

What happens if McGregor loses and being hyped up as the next big thing?

That's why i'm rooting for Siver to hit him with a spinning back kick from hell. Would be so awesome.
