There are ways you can obtain Adobe software...look it up. But, if you're trying to do things safely, there's a free program called Inkscape, which is basically Adobe Illustrator.

i've been looking for this thread for a minute...

i started up messing around with photoshop in high school (prolly around the same time i found NT), and it's been something that i've been doing for fun (free) since then, up until recently.

my hobbies include ps3, kush, chess, and getting stuck at a railroad crossing while bombed trains slowly creep by.

here's some of the stuff i've done as of late.

Hey NT - Some really great work in here. I want to put a call out to the budding artists here. (I thought about making a separate thread, but figured I might find someone here looking to build their portfolio.) I'm working on my copywriter's book and am hoping to team up with an artist to take some of my writing samples to the finished stage. This could be a good way to help us both sharpen our skills and portfolios.

I remember there was an NTer who posted a while back looking to do some design work to add to his portfolio, dunno if you're still out there. My stuff includes print ads (photo editing, so if you're into photography too, that would be great), text design and drawing up storyboards for short commercial scripts. We could collaborate over Skype, so geography shouldn't too be much of a problem. If you're interested in potentially joining forces, hit me up at d.lew23@gmail.

I call these "polystrations" (a portmanteau of Polygon and Illustration). I was listening to Daft Punk one afternoon and had this epiphany. Haha.
First three are me and my friends which I played on and ended up as profile pictures.

The last 2 designs I eventually made into shirts..

I CAN'T believe I slept on this thread, especially as a first year visual arts student. Everybody's artwork posted are phenomenal, along with great advice.

Although I know my career path will be somewhere along the lines of visual arts/design, I am still not clear as to what I should do... I'm actually wondering what it would actually take to have my work up in a famous art gallery one day.
